I was wondering how I put a texture on minetest!

If it doesn't unzip to where it needs to go ...
or you have to cut & past something ...
or the file ending (???.????) is confusing to a non computer person or someone just wanting to enjoy the game and all the mods that he/she sees that they think would be cool in the game .....
And some of us can't play online on other people's servers for that lets us, sometimes, fall pray to people or things we are told to not interact with ...
I do not understand why mods can't be included with downloads and have a click on or click off what you don't or do want and again this is from one of those unlearned computer people who just love this game.
Yes, you could say I am getting a free ride here because I can't help any and that I should not complain and you would be right .... so take this post as a "Why can't it be this way ???" and not a complaining post ....

okay there are not many textures updated to that yet so it should be put into data clienttextures BTW all 4.0 textures have Default at the beginning of the file name! and you put the files in that not the folder

Download a texture pack for minetest 0.4. You will probably get a tar.gz archive-extract it. Then move the textures to
minetest-0.4/mods/default/textures
Something like that :D
