Re: Way to hide World Edit wand from Creative inventory?

You could create a mod that overrides the items you want to hide. Simply depend on the mods the items are from and then add the group not_in_creative_inventory to those items.

This just hides the items. The items are still craftable and can be obtained with the give command.

The discussion is no longer about replacing IRC, nor is it about whether IRC is better than Matrix or vice versa.
Then people should stop discussing those things.

This is equally true for IRC except VoIP. It just depends on the client.

Re: Connecting to a server without the actual client

I am aiming to connect to minetest servers without actually having the client itself. Its because minetest objects like machines and robots remain inactive when there is no player near it. Why not simply use the “world anchor” provided by the technic mod? https://github.com/minetest-mods/technic/bl...

Re: Formspecs, The Past, Present, and Future: An Overview

It does, at present, only affect CSM So in the end we will have one awesome, modern system allowing random key combinations and one input system that chokes on non-QWERTY input :D But what’s the state of CSM in general? The information available from the dozens of issues and discussions regarding C...

Re: Formspecs, The Past, Present, and Future: An Overview

This looks quite wonderful! It's about formspecs, but understand I correctly that minetest.register_on_event() basically allows mods to get arbitrary input events and handle them as they like? Or does that only affect CSM (which was a mistake to release in the current state)?

Re: New project managment proposal

It's basically a find something that looks interesting and review it system. So the older a PR gets the less interesting it is? Maybe a queue for PRs that I should review (not made by me for myself, but by someone else) or something along those lines. Here’s a task: Order the PR lists by age (desce...

Re: New project managment proposal

If this is about me specifically, I think I proved enough, but ok. No it’s not, don’t worry. Enough is, what current core devs think is enough, I guess. Basically because they’re all volunteers and no-one can just assign something to them. But they can self-assign them, yet they don't. Back to the ...

Re: New project managment proposal

I don't see any core artist even if a menu is apparently needed That’s how a meritocracy works. You’re not selected as core artist and then do the work, you first do the work and then get selected as core artist because of what you did before. On 968 current issues, 959 are unassigned. Re: New project managment proposal

The new content is a other thing as we currently can't handle the amount of contributions. PR reviews could be made faster by auto-linting it stead of playing ping-pong with the contributor figuratively one code line after another with a 2-3 days to weeks delay between each review. Not sure if Micr...

Re: New project managment proposal

how exactly Veloren is able to do that? I have no clue and I don’t care. Ask them if you’re interested. I guess because their team is larger due to having a much more polished game and thus a larger user base and that attracts more devs? You're not making people fantasise about anything, you're sho...

Re: New project managment proposal

It will make the situation even worse because over time teams stop communicating with eachother. Oh, so you mean exactly like the current situation between community and the majority of core devs, because of the latter? Yes, and now imagine single teams not communicating with each other. This is ex...

Re: New project managment proposal

Wait wait wait, I think there is a misunderstanding. Advertising, design, website, they don't involve core devs at all . The point is having a separate team for each one of these tasks. So you create teams where there are no members for? Core devs would benefit to delegate things outside of their f...

Re: Getting tired of it

What if, in order to get your mod into Minetest you had to review three mods/contributions (or however many mods people think they will put up.) pull requests, and then, only then if you do a good job reviewing stuff then you could get your work into the game. What if? Well … People would release t...

Re: New project managment proposal

I said to split the aspects of MT in separate areas. Then you end up with one or two areas having all the devs and the majority of areas have no devs. I don't think it's hard to distinguish an artistic task from an advertising or coding one. In-betweens do exist but I think everyone here is also sm...

Re: New project managment proposal

Giving a better thought about it, a solution to the problem might be having separate working groups, where each group is managed by one person. Why the hell is everyone thinking about management first? Devs first! This will simply not work at all in a small team like the Minetest core dev team. Cor...

Re: Getting tired of it

Minetest with all its faults is up to date and superior to Minecraft v1.7.6 at least. It just needs to polish small things. Minetest is comparable with early beta versions of Minecraft plus modding API but without mobs. It is totally not comparable with final versions of the game nor is it superior...

Re: Getting tired of it

I realized I would need tight integration with mumble (done) better internationalization support for chat (done, through an ugly kludge) Those aren’t things that should need a fork. But looking at Minetest’s development style I understand why you have done it. Adding those features as PR or filing ...

Re: Proposal: make Matrix official as much as IRC and remove Discord bridge

Ask people if they care about privacy, independence, user freedoms, customisability or any of the other common benefits of FOSS software, and you might get a different answer I don’t think so. People just don’t care. Otherwise Facebooks services (Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook itself, etc.) wouldn’t...

Re: Proposal: make Matrix official as much as IRC and remove Discord bridge

I find paradoxical MT takes the free software stance and then it (also) relies on Discord. It doesn’t. It was a mistake to install that bridge, though. But it was done and now can’t be revoked without cutting off people from the chat. Because you want it or not, you're accepting surveillance capita...

Re: Proposal: make Matrix official as much as IRC and remove Discord bridge

Yet certain features like image sharing, GIFs, reactions, etc. don't seem to be natively built into IRC, right? There is DCC for sending/receiving files (SEND). No, they tend towards a specific UI style established by iMessage and WhatsApp.

In reality no-one cares what protocol or license is used.
