Re: Random tricks and tips (Minetest Game)

If you have the 'fast' privilege, use is used to run. But if you don't hold any movement keys, use works as a brake. So, if you're running really fast, let go of all movement keys but continue to hold down use and you will stop quickly. Since you don't gain any momentum while running just tap backw...

Re: Wooden Bucket [wooden_bucket]

But...a steel bucket, a wooden bucket (=not suitable for lava), a clay bucket (great material for it), glass and bottles from the vessels mod...they could all be buckets. RealTest even adds a ton of buckets for all those diffrent metals it comes with. It would be great if the bucket mod could get e...

Re: [Mod] Wells, Rainbarrels, Non-Apocalyptic Water [rainbar

I suppose it's pointless to ask the devs for any kind of liquid-spread callback? I guess ... But this would be the optimal solution, yes. In the meantime unloaded areas should not behave as solid nodes ... You can even walk on unloaded areas and land on them without fall damage what makes it possib...

Re: [Mod] Wells, Rainbarrels, Non-Apocalyptic Water [rainbar

(Just make a small, temporary claim a few hundred nodes above someone's precious creation, and the damage is done) Just make it high enough above so the actual creation is unloaded, then drop the lava and wait until it spreads on top of the unloaded area then go down to make it load to cover the wh...

Re: Does the current Minetest seem too easy?

Something doesn't need to have a goal to be a game. Depends on definition of "game". A sandbox or child's play does not quality as game to me. I stick with the definition of game designers Katie Salen and Eric Zimmerman which concludes the general idea of what a game is very well ("A...

Re: Does the current Minetest seem too easy?

I consider Minetest Game to be mostly a creative sandbox. Minetest Game is nothing more than a base for modding since it provides some relevant APIs. In v5.0.0, there will be a couple of more blocks and stuff to build with, but no new mechanics will be added. But it still is a sandbox without real ...

Re: In which language you want to write mods?

TillCoyote wrote:What language would you use for Minetest mods coding?

After considering all the pros and cons: Lua is absolutely fine. I just wish Minetest would use a more recent version and LuaJIT without those extreme memory usage issues.

Re: [Mod] Hunger NG: A next generation hunger mod (hunger_ng

Attention modders! The API changed a little. When getting the hunger information using hunger_ng.get_hunger_information you’ll get a slightly altered table back. Also: all hunger data is now player meta data and no longer custom attributes because with Minetest 5.0.0 custom attributes are to be see...

Re: [Mod] Hunger NG: A next generation hunger mod (hunger_ng

I use hbhunger with hudbar, and all OK. When I replace to hunger_ng, I get this error: Found the issue (embarrassing typo) and fixed it. I also fixed the default hunger bar not being removed when enabling the hudbars mod. Just fetch the latest Git versions of everything. Have you ever thought of tr...

Re: Minetest 5.0.0 feature freeze !

Now that RC1 is out and a few servers are already running it (or even older dev versions), maybe it would be worth starting a status thread for mods? Fortunately the API is pretty stable. None of my public or (currently) private mods broke in 5.0.0 without changes. Mods should be adapted to 5.0.0 A...

As I proofed now that it is possible to use ONE postgresql db for mind 2 servers, That was never doubted. (What code might be responsible for [map corruption] and who a good db should handle it ?)
