If you want a decentralised ContentDB, [...]
Simply set up your own CDB instance and point your Minetest to this instance instead.

Re: Handy Function to get base game name

Since world.mt is a key-value storage you can use it with the settings API.

Code: Select all

local game_id = Settings(minetest.get_worldpath()..DIR_DELIM..'world.mt'):get('gameid')

As far as I know: there is no way to register without github account.

Basically this, yes. So XNOR as dedicated gate would be nice, but it’s not that it’s impossible to to use XNOR logic right now.

Re: WORLD edge (viable alternative)?

The most natural way to create a sense of infinity, imo., is to blend the height at the map edges of x to -x, and z to -z. And a player walks past 32767 automatically emerge at -32767. But I think it requires modification to mapgen code and is beyond LUA modding capabilities. You also need to mirro...

By that logic you'd also have no NOR or NAND gates.
Except NOR you don't need any other gates because with NOR gates alone you can build all the other gates. Same applies for NAND.

Re: active player, actively playing (RETRO PLUS)

With the current engine infinite worlds (only limited by storage) are simply not possible and in the foreseeable future the world size will not change and from all the discussions I followed about this, most of the devs are simply not interested to change this.

although the player name is of no importance if you start a singleplayer world, you might change your mind someday and want to use that exact map in some multiplayer setup. This is why I always start all my worlds in multiplayer mode. Since it’s local there is no difference between a server with fi...

Re: A node which resets sunlight?

Yes, something like a “sky node” would be a great addition. Imagine a glass block but instead of seeing through the glass you just see the sky as if there were no obstacles, including sunlight. With this you could cover the bottom layer of the world above and players underneath would simply see the ...

As a server owner you could disable or restrict water or lava buckets and/or water or lava flowing. As a player all you can do is using the available protection functionality as good as possible.

Re: Grief-Proof Protection ideas?

As a player there is not much you can do. Does the server use a protection mod? If so, then protect your area and use locked chests, and double-layer steel doors, and 2 nodes thick walls only. As admin you have plenty of options. For example: You could disable (either override or remove) "criti...

Re: A node which resets sunlight?

Afaik shadows do not propagate all the way down, so maybe stack your worlds with large enough layers in between where players can't build or walk into. A "buffer" of 300 nodes should be reasonably high for not having the bottom layer of the world above being loaded.

You can hire Lua developers for around 50-100 USD per hour on Upwork, for example. Those are the normal prizes. There are cheaper devs, though, but I wouldn't trust them.
