Re: What is or how to define true Minetest ?

so how can I detect the normal standard massive used clients for there source, when they connect ? You can use minetest.get_player_information(player_name) on player join. This gives you a table containing the protocol version and formspec version supported by the player's client. Unfortunately the...

They was made for 0.4.x where there was even no idea yet of 5.x.
Yes, and when 5.x came out the author didn't care back then and didn't care since 2 years.

Re: How do I tell if a Minetest mod can support 5.0 versions

However I've heard that Minetest mods that can only support the 0.4 type versions of the game are incompatible with 5.0 type versions of the game, making it pretty important for me to know which mods can support 5.0 type versions and which ones can't. If a mod does not support Minetest 5.x then it ...

So if someone wants it, they can and should implement it using a mod.
That's not the point of this thread.

It's about Discord support in core, which fortunately won't happen.

Re: How to enable mobs and farm animals?

No need to manually download it. In the client, switch to the “Content” tab and click “Browse online content”. There you can search for mobs redo and directly install the “Mobs Redo” API mod and the mobs mods you like. Then go to “Start game” and create a new world (or select an existing one) and af...

Re: How to enable mobs and farm animals?

You need to install one of the available mobs mods. The default game "Minetest Game" does not contain any mobs. The commonly used mobs mod is "Mobs Redo" by TenPlus1. With this you need to install the API and any of the compatible individual mobs mods, depending on what mobs you ...

Don't ridicule yourself ... OF COURSE is 5.4.1 a modified version of 5.4. Different versions are absolutely not the point! It's about modifications AFTER a download form the official sources was made.

If the code is modified it's modified. There is no room for funny interpretation. If code is modified or not is not a philosophical contemplation it's a matter of fact.

Re: What is or how to define true Minetest ?

To me a "true Minetest server" is a server that runs a version of the Minetest server application compiled from the unmodified officially available sources (either manually compiled by oneself or by installing such a version using the operating system's package manager). The type of the ga...

even if you do enforce this somehow, it will be easy to just lie to the serverlist as to what engine/fork/etc you are using as minetest is open source software.
And if you lock your door there will still be burglars. So the solution is not locking your door?

Auf meinem Server mit Arch Linux liegt die Konfigurationsdatei in /etc/minetest/servername.conf , die Spiele und Mods unter /var/lib/minetest/.minetest/{mods,games} und die Welt unter /var/lib/minetest/servername . The correct way to filter based on forks would be using the engine name variable, which forms part of the version string
Basically this.

If not implemented on server-side maybe an option in the clients would be great (for example "Only show Minetest servers").

This does not imply [that] the person specifically contributed to MultiCraft.
In some of the cases it actually does (or did, since the PRs are all some years old and were for the legacy MultiCraft version).

Why don't you add something constructive to the conversation instead of acting pretentious? but from my perspective, it would likely involve some form of code / executable hash verification. For example, just take the md5 of the Minetest executable and then send that to the serverlist.
There is so much wrong with this I don’t even know where to start.
