Re: The future of Minetest

honesty is the best form of respect. Always be as blunt and honest as possible without personally attacking people. Attack their ideas if you think they're shit, attack their code if you think you can do it better, attack what and how they say it if you disagree with what they say. But never person...

Re: The future of Minetest

This post was not to denigrate community or devellopers, but simply to remind you that it is important for a project to listen and respect each other, even if you feel that the work of one and the other is not As you wish. What happens if people don't obey the "CoC" you suggest? Are they ...

Re: The future of Minetest

A radical change of times can save a project of death, Minetest isn’t broken. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I have a very specific example: OpenOffice. Actually a pretty good example. Because what you describe with “had several pretty big problems, having had a fork and starting on a more solid b...

[...] because on the logic ones games can not be contained in other game. However, subgames can. That is correct. But that is not how Minetest's games work since you do not create games for another game (=subgames) but games for an engine (=games). But let's not derail this actually pretty importan...

Re: The future of Minetest

a little respect and politeness goes a long way in a community. Politeness has nothing to do with code. Saying "the interface is rotten, especially for the menu" is absolutely fine when the interface is rotten (which it is because it uses Irrlicht's UI functionality which is rotten by des...

Re: The future of Minetest

NO! No, no no, oh my god, please NO! This looks like it could be the beginning of the end. Do not force divisive politics on communities. There is only one universal rule: Do not be an asshole. If you want to use this CoC-esque stuff, please feel free to host an own server/forum or build a community...

Re: First Hacks on Minetest

Actually for changing the look of an item you don't need a mod. All you need is a texture pack having the texture for the item. Can I just put different .png files in that? Under the same name? Do not alter upstream files. It makes updating the package harder. Simply create a texture pack having the...

I am using 0.4.17, I can't find minetest 5.0

Minetest 5.0 is not released yet. Maybe Q1/2019 due to the lack of development time.

Re: How to tell mapgen-placed nodes apart from player-placed

Having a mod that sets custom meta data to the node when placing it would be the cleanest way.

Ist eigentlich ganz einfach: GPL für Code, und CC-BY-SA für Medien. Wenn man fremde Sachen einbinden will, drauf achten, dass eine der beiden Lizenzen verwendet wird, wenn nicht, einfach nicht nutzen.

Re: How to change language?

Addition to that: If you’re on Linux and if you didn’t compile Minetest by yourself there is a very high possibility that none of this works because Minetest checks for the translations in a non-default location when not compiled with the correct path set. The easiest solution is to link the wrong p...

Forget that. It is impossible for Minetest to handle 500 players. Not even 50 without horrible lag.

Re: Truly infinite worlds (poll)

I don't think it even needs to have Minecraft's horizontal size But why not? Using a proper addressing system as described earlier it would not matter if you want to walk 2 or 2 billion nodes in one direction. If the system would ever be rewritten we should aim for the maximum possible size. And if...

Re: [Mod] HUD bars [1.11.0] [hudbars]

You can always replace “hub” with “lab” :) https://gitlab.com/4w/hunger_ng/issues/5 There is an option hunger_ng_use_hunger_bar you can set to false in minetest.conf . This prevents the hunger bar created by Hunger NG to be shown (anything else works like before, this option just hides the hunger ba...

I'm not sure this mod has better alternative or not but I see it very interesting although unrealistic, and I think quite a game changer.
