Re: ContentDB - now with package translation support

Well, you can translate NodeCore, Piranesi, and Exile on Weblate. They convert to and from other formats to achieve this. For other packages, there's the PR route but that's a bit lame Both variants are not ideal. Converting back and forth adds one more layer on where things could go wrong and also...

Re: ContentDB - now with package translation support

That’s neat! It’s a bit hidden right now and makes no sense yet, but once we can translate mods with modern translation workflows everything will start being better. Weblate also has an API for statistics, so no need to reinvent the wheel. If a mod offers a Weblate URL, the CDB could fetch the stati...

Re: ContentDB - now with package translation support

Instead, this will probably be fixed by adding support for gettext files: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/pull/13687 This is absolutely fantastic! This will bring i18n ten steps forward once merged! Having plurals is important, but having a good toolchain and an established environment in my o...

Imagine Weblate would support that Minetest translations file format! How awesome would that be! Continuous translation built in with modern standard cooperative translation tools!

Re: Why no CMSs in Content DB?

Are CSMs are even a thing anymore?

They need additional manual setup, servers can (and should) block them, and they're never meant to be a thing in the current state.

Re: Defragmenting the Minetest community

why do you think the numbers of users is so very, very low? Because it’s a niche (Minetest) in a niche (the Threadiverse). If the forms ever get an update it would be lovely to see a hard cut (all “legacy” forum content still available on some sort of archive website) and switch to Lemmy. This is a...

There’s also Minetest on Lemmy (which is very low-traffic, but still …). https://lemmy.ml/c/minetest From the originally mentioned ones (except for this form here, of course), the only one on an open platform that does not need extra software and is not proprietary or owned by a for-profit organizat...

Neither gui_scaling nor hud_scaling is set.

But the discussion linked in the PR is funny. Basically “yes, but we simply ignore it”. I guess we now have to live with broken crosshairs forever. :(

How to fix broken crosshair display?

Basically the title.

I have the left crosshair, but it is shown like on the right.

The image is scaled up to see the effect I mean.

This happens with 5.8. With 5.7.x versions I do not have this issue.

Any idea how to fix that?

Re: Minetest 5.8.0 release candidate 1

Finally no default game anymore! This can just be better for mod diversity!

Are there any more details for the inventory mouse shortcut improvements? Unfortunately the changelog does not link to the PRs for the features.

Will it work like in Minecraft?

The only REAL independent solution is setting up an own Forgejo instance. In the long run this could not only be the place for Minetest itself, but also for mods.

Do we really need a github repository for mods?
No, you can (and should, but that’s just my opinion) use another Git hosting service than GitHub.

You can even host your own.

Re: ContentDB - database for the mod/game/txp in-menu installer

CommonMark is pretty much consensus nowadays, when it comes to Markdown parsing.

So maybe using mistletoe would be a good idea to consider. It not only follows CommonMark, it’s also extensible by design.

Re: Emigrate from Github

Maybe we should give Codeberg a try. Selfhosting a system that does not depend on a for-profit corporation is the only long-term solution that is viable. The only fully featured system that fits this criteria right now that I know of is Forgejo (a soft-fork of Gitea which is owned by a for-profit c...

Re: Emigrate from Github

Choosing Codeberg or any other Forgejo instance would be a good choice, Absolutely! After a few years of happily using GitLab I switched to a selfhosted Forgejo instance. I miss nothing. Plus: I’m alone in 100% control of all my data and code. Forgejo also uses very little system resources and can ...

Re: [Modpack] 3D Armor [0.4.13] [minetest-3d_armor]

As a stab in the dark, I would guess that your on_joinplayer code is getting run before the 3D Armor mod's on_joinplayer that sets all that stuff up. By wrapping it in a minetest.after() you're delaying it until 3D Armor has filled those values. Basically order of mod execution. But that's just a g...

Re: [Modpack] 3D Armor [0.4.13] [minetest-3d_armor]

I did some more testing. And here’s a fun thing to think about. When I use the posted minimal (not) working example it does not fill the table as expected, buuuuuut: When I wrap the test_for_armor function like so: minetest.register_on_joinplayer(function () minetest.after(0, test_for_armor) end) … ...
