Re:
As a newbie player I would welcome most suggestions in this thread. Viewing distance is limited (understandably), but if there is a software trick to show objects that are further away with limited detail, then I'd be all for it. It would definitely make the game look more awesome (and it would make...

Re: Quickest way in and out of a mine?
It is very rare, and unlike in minecraft, most minetest servers let you keep your items when you die, or just create bones which aren't destroyed by lava. Rare? I'm playing a default game (bsaically no additional mods, no interference with the world creating settings or whatever), and I went throug...

Re: Lighting a large room?
There have been some really good tips here so far, and my favorite is the trick to hide torches under slabs. I applied it in the statues that I had built which were perfect for this trick. I now have some glow-in-the-dark statues. Also, the comment that the entire room does not have to be equally br...

Re: Quickest way in and out of a mine?
Those of you who dig straight down: How do you deal with the lava lakes and caverns? It would appear to me that if you just dig straight down, you'll eventually remove the last stone and plunge into a large empty cavern, or worse, into a lava pool?

Lighting a large room?
I have built a large hall, and I struggle to hang my torches such that it still looks pretty. The dimensions are: floor is 50x50 nodes, and the height is 25 nodes. It appears that using regular torches, I need 3-4 rows of torches along the walls at various heights, with torches every 4 nodes, and to...

Re: Quickest way in and out of a mine?
Thanks for all the feedback. What is 'mushroom pore from ethereal'? Is it part of the regular mod (the one that is installed standard)? I'm building a staircase, but it appears that this is quite a bit of work too, and I am not yet convinced that its construction is worth the time and material inves...

Quickest way in and out of a mine?
Hello all, What's your solutions to getting in and out of a mine quickly? I'm mining at around 600 nodes deep at the moment, but I frequently want to get back to the surface, so I can dump my exploits, as well as stock up on wood for new tools/torches. But I noticed that it is starting to take quite...

Re: Rename minetest_game
Just some feedback from a newbie who just downloaded the game and is still confused what is what: I understand there are mods. The game comes default with one mod. I think that should be called the "Minetest Default Mod", or "Minetest Classic Mod". If there is some underlying eng...

Re: Rendering - gaps in my buildings, ugly screenshots
Excellent. I had not realized that it helps if I walk to the castle, and then back. Walking over to my castle, and changing/adding the two lines of text as solars wrote in the 1st reply helped. (Pressing R also improves the picture, and although I already knew of that feature all replies are welcome...

Rendering - gaps in my buildings, ugly screenshots
I'm building a rather large castle, and when I try to take a screenshot from a distance (typically at 200-250 blocks distance, for aesthetic reasons), parts of the building do not render. I typically have two problems: 1. The parts furthest away do not render. I believe that this can be changed by s...
