Re: Making a free License that enforces proper attribution

I quite like the Apache 2.0 for this little piece: (d) If the Work includes a "NOTICE" text file as part of its distribution, then any Derivative Works that You distribute must include a readable copy of the attribution notices contained within such NOTICE file, excluding those notices that do not p...

I think you're requesting a modpack version of the game, to which I politely say "No."

The Staff not killing players is a known issue, it will be fixed in a future update.

Re: Other, Superior Open Source Game Engines Exist Now... :D

Godot is not at all the same thing as Irrlicht. Irrlicht is a graphics library, so MT would need a new graphics library, not an entire engine that wants to manage everything itself. Any big change like this would likely cause numerous extra bugs as well, and potentially take years to finish. I'd muc...

Re: [Linux] Minetest Appimages

I've been working on getting reliable AppImages for Minetest for a few days now. I will likely try to get a PR going once all the configuration tweaks are worked out (hopefully with TravisCI integration assuming no devs disagree with using it for builds).

Well, good luck with your future projects. It was great having you here, with all your mods and experiments. Hopefully you do the same with Godot :-)

Re: [Game] The Infinite IKEA [Pre-Alpha]

Oh ok. cool. D'ya reckon I could help? I'm not very good at making playable content, but I can do mechanics and textures (for example optimizing the way those hanging lights are rendered :p). Sticking it all together is where I fall short. Sure, go ahead and check the Gitlab (linked in first post) ...

The last post in this topic was from the end of Augest, I did a live-stream on October 28th, and the last commit to the repository was from a week ago. The development may be slow, and I may be exhausted from having been ...

Re: Vulcan For Minetest Would Be A Good Thing

No, that's not how that works. Vulkan is a new graphics API and is good because of that, and is probably more efficient for some tasks than OpenGL. This does not mean that every game to tack on support for it will instantly have insane performance. Minetest doesn't use OpenGL properly, does not have...

Re: Project organization

The way IKEA is structured is mostly concept based, where chunks of things are split up into related mods. Anything IKEA-specific has the " ikea_ " prefix attached to it's name, while the more generic mods have more generic names (both have generic item names though, like " chairs:vedbo "). For exam...

Re: Strip the default status from MTG

Ruben made the ContentDB because games are made for MT, not forked from it. The CDB by nature makes Minetest a content distribution platform, there is nothing to agree or disagree about. I've suggested making MT a more library-like game engine, but the amount of structural changed needed makes it im...

Re: Strip the default status from MTG

MTG IS BAD, EXTERMINATE! Arguing about how bad or good MTG is is not going to get you anywhere. The only reason a new player would be disapointed to find a storefront rather than Free Minecraft is because we still treat Minetest like a game. Heck, just yesterday someone joined the Unnoficial Discor...

Re: Strip the default status from MTG

A few notes: 1. Minetest is a volunteer project, core devs have about as much free time as you and me so they must choose what to work on carefully. 2. Bringing other drama against the core devs here is unwarranted and bad. Don't do this. 3. MTG is a bad game, but a great base for modded servers and...

I like you, Wuzzy, and I think you're an outstanding developer, but I'm getting weary of these diatribes against MTG that seem to be primarily motivated by a desire to promote your own game. Re: Strip the default status from MTG

Instead of whining, post solutions OP has literally spent years developing one of the most mature games we have, revived an otherwise dead and broken game, has made countless mods, the tutorial game, and needs to "post solutions"? I support removing MTG as the default, and showing the ContentDB on ...

Re: Posters?

Technical details are easy to give in text form, but making an image which somehow describes the project's release is difficult with only technical details.

We could use assets from up-and coming games, although honestly I feel like posters should be for games and not engines.

If Minetest moves, it needs to be after one of the self-hosted Git platforms gets federation support, otherwise it'll be a pain to contribute.

Re: Are we not worried that Minetest is depending on MS now?

Minetest is competition to Minecraft How? Because they use a similar artstyle? MTG and MC2 might be that way, but IKEA sure isn't competition, it's a very different game. Gitlab is… you guessed it… also VC funded! That implies broadly the same incentives in business as Github (strive for monopoly, ...
