Re: New user issues
I might get sh** for saying this but, if they asked for a Minecraft server, just go ahead and get a Minecraft server, chances are they know what they want and don't care about the things Minetest is supposed to be better at.

Re: My thoughts on Minetest coming from Minecraft
Voxelands looks like the work of a single developer going "screw this 'engine' and 'modding' bs, I'm gonna make an actual game". It also appears to be a lot more loosely managed (the art looks really inconsistent, the mobs use higher res sprites than the environment and feel out of place)....

Re: My thoughts on Minetest coming from Minecraft
Remind me again why is similarity with Minecraft a bad thing? If Minetest's extensibility becomes so powerful that you can make a faithful clone of the (by far) most popular voxel based sandbox game in the world, doesn't that mean the developers are doing a good job? Also, "if you don't like it...

Re: How unfotunate - server owners as grievers
This is the internet - always assume the worst. If it can be griefed, it will. I think this thread is a bit of an over reaction, but I'm glad you figured out how to protect your server.

Re: 0.5.0
That wouldn't work, as players have no (Mod-changeable)velocity, and therefore cannot be pushed around. The current mobs_redo mod, however, does already do that. That is unfortunate. If you are familiar with the engine's design, can you tell me why that is, and what would be the challenges to be fa...

Re: 0.5.0
Correct me if I'm wrong but the way I see it, client-side scripting should be a priority because of things like this. Couldn't the knockback effect be done by: (server side) accelerating the entity in the direction opposite to the blow, and (client side) predicting the final position of the entity t...

Re: MinetestForFun Magichet CLOSURE
Not trying to join the fight here, but @MinetestForFun: you had resources you wanted to dedicate to helping out a mod/subgame creator, and you chose the one subgame that had the most proprietary/ultra-restrictive/control-freaky licence. How the hell did you not see this coming from a mile away? The ...

Re: 0.5.0
I know this is far, far beyond the horizon, but just for fun: what about 1.0? What kind of features and/or optimizations do you think Minetest needs before it's considered a complete piece of software ready for prime time? Any core contributor would like to play along and give their 2 cents just for...
