Minetest Story Mode ... seriously? I think it is a bit too early to think about it. No matter how you implement it. Minetest Game is a bit too limited to really tell a story around it. One thing to note is that you need to have things a bit more advanced looking model, you would need blender, or something like what i have, another way is how Stikbots do it. :P

Maybe it could have it's own lucky mobs or other stuff. Like a Evil Lucky Block or something, but what i mean is it should have automatic support for mods like More Ores and it can give you Mithrill stuff, and maybe nssm and mob_pack so it could summon some of those mobs.

I used to like this but now i'm kinda not, first i can't use it in Mese Realms series because of Pumpboom having too high of a spawn chance. Second, i think that this interferes with mob_pack, not saying anything bad but a dark blueish dimension was being added to mob_pack.

I got a spooky idea, how about on April 1st a mob has a chance of spawning 1% and when you get near it your inventory gets filled with dirt, the mob looks like a player and has a nametag that says singleplayer.
