Re: [Server] Not So Simple Server

Once again, to be sure

This server is dead. Someone else has started hosting a server under the same name, but it ain't me. *My* server has been dead since at least summer 2019

Not So Simple Server IV is not mine - no idea whose it is 😅

I'll post there to let people know.

Re: [Server] Not So Simple Server

To be clear. Server is d, e, a, d. I have not beeen maintaining anything in Minetest space for a long time now. I want to get back to this stuff, but from a modder point of view. Server hosting is a lot of work....

Re: [Mod] Not So Simple Buildings [2.0] [nssb]

Not looked at NSSM/NSSB in a whilen (I last worked on Mintest mods during the 4.x days....)...... might take some time for me to dig into this. Can you try the version at https://github.com/taikedz-mt/nssb ? If that one is also broken, I can look into it. Can't promise a specific deadline tho. Anybo...

Re: [Mod] Not So Simple Mobs [3.0] [nssm]

Which version of NSSM are you using? NPX's version does indeed have a bug which causes this. I fixed it in the version I maintain, you can copy the fix too into your version if you want https://github.com/minetest-mobs-mods/nssm/commit/666b4c0ca24ac1c84c65b0fc3c4bac2ae83fb0f9 That version is heavily...

Re: [Server] Not So Simple Server

I've turned off the global chat again because of spammers. You need to use the "/channel" command to join a channel. You can "/channel join channelname" and "/channel invite playername" to talk to friends.

Re: [Mod] D00Med mobs [dmobs]

This is likely an artifact from my refactor of that code. This is quite an obscure bug - the following code function y() print("Hi") end -- This is like in the loop x = 5, y() print(x) Will print Hello 5 The comma just separates statements, in theory So I would have expected the above to s...

UK Minetesters going to Oggcamp 2019 (Manchester)?

Hey hey

Just wondering if there were any UK (or non-UK) players heading to Oggcamp 2019 in Manchester this October?

Oggcamp 2019

Would be fun to have a mini meetup in the midst of it all :-)

Re: Funding Minetest Coredevs with Open Collective (or Patre

You could take it in a beginner/educational direction and have it about mod coding etc, with a showcase of the possibilities vs ease-of-modding... but that feels a little pedestrian for this kind of event... A thing which would be more in keeping (but beyond me personally) would be using a combinati...

Re: Funding Minetest Coredevs with Open Collective (or Patre

Hm OK I see the problem with using funds in some of the ways I suggested. Remains a question of wanting to have a central pot for keeping the lights on ..? Setting up and running an actual non-profit requires leg work, paperwork, and so on, so probably not great at that level - but that's where Open...

Re: Funding Minetest Coredevs with Open Collective (or Patre

@rubenwardy thanks for the rundown ; I was aware of Paramat's post, not sure how I managed to forget to looking them up for a patreon acct directly. Regards what to spend money on for a shared funding pot - indeed, that would be the main item to address. Partly my question also was around that - has...

Funding Minetest Coredevs with Open Collective (or Patreon)?

Hi As per title, I was wondering whether it was of interest for the core devs of Minetest to set up and manage an Open Collective, or Patreon, account so as to accept monetary donations? For one, it would make me feel much better (egotistically) if I could fund some of the activity around Minetest, ...

I lazily updated the server to Minetest 5.0

I haven't checked mods for compatibility yet. There might be breakages. Let me know here if any.

Re: [mod] Random spawning with spawn sharing [rspawn]

Part of the idea was to allow "self-managing spawn towns" ("spowns"??) -- so demands on players to manage their own spawn towns is not so bad. For the distribution... I'd nearly say that would be an entirely different mod (made for compatibility with this one, perhaps). One could...

Re: [mod] Random spawning with spawn sharing [rspawn]

Sometimes it can take 20-30 minutes to even find an empty area with a tree to punch. (...) tons of protected areas around spawn (owned by offline players) that make it so I can't interact with anything until I trek out of town. I know how you feel... I actually made this mod simply because I wanted...

Re: [mod] Random spawning with spawn sharing [rspawn]

It's a great concept. Having players spawn scattered across a world makes the evolution of a server so much more interesting and creates new possibilities. I might add such an option to MTG or the engine. Glad you like it :-) I need to whittle this down back to its core, I think it grew arms and le...

Re: [mod] Random spawning with spawn sharing [rspawn]

I may give this a test soon, it has a lot of features. Right now I'm using https://github.com/NathanSalapat/random_spawn for my survival server. Most welcome to :-) I hadn't realized Nathan had had a go at this. `rspawn` (mine) actually does the spawn point generation in advance, so players don't h...

Re: [mod] Random spawning with spawn sharing [rspawn]

Sorry I haven't worked on this for a while. I started this project and the server it was tailored for, in Xmas 2018, and spent around 3 months doggedly maintaining it. I burned out and am still recuperating :-( This is my sad tale of Minetest presence - a massive flurry of activity, and then a long ...

Re: [Proposition] Trusting players

Handing over players' data to a third party requires a server operator to trust the services they are sending the data to; Nope, trust is not part of the GDPR. Indeed, sorry I should have changed paragraphs or something. I meant that as a server operator, I want to know that third party servers to ...

Re: [Proposition] Trusting players

@Sofar Points taken re player trust/quality dynamics I still feel my "secondly" point still stands - I don't think it's the game server that should ask for the email address, but the 2FA service itself. This would also allow any game server to attach to any 2FA server it decides to trust, ...

Re: [mod] Random spawning with spawn sharing [rspawn]

Fear not! 5.0.0 is around the corner and will feature minetest.get_biome_data(pos) Good to know... *sigh* I guess I'm going to have to gear up for the 5.0.0 change some day...! :-p Yes, this would be an alternative mechanism, more like villages/towns of players "born" into it: Some player...
