Re: Minetest in 2022

I interpreted MisterE to simply be going on the assumption that most people that post about Minetest-related games and projects in this forum, intend for those projects to be available to the public in some form -- either as a server or an open-source distribution. Not sure why that would stir up so...

Re: [Server] Just Test Tribute (200 Years)

Just a quick heads up, all doors and trapdoors now support multiple closing and locking modes via the wrench tool. This should afford more consistency when building with a variety of doors, all requiring the same feature set. Originally, I had wanted certain doors to be more fully-featured than othe...

How to be listed on the MultiCraft server list?

I'm curious how a Minetest server gets listed on the in-app MultiCraft server list. I know that MultiCraft servers with players are listed by default, but I see a few non-forked Minetest servers are also listed at the very end: UGX Realms, Potatoland USA, and c22. What's interesting is these Minetes...

Re: [Server] Just Test Tribute (200 Years)

It seems that collecting hard-to-find items is becoming a sort of competition amongst players on the JT2 server these past few weeks. Some are even dealing and trading in such rarities, creating an underground marketplace of sorts! IMS_BULLDOGS shows off a couple of exotic finds from someone's bones...

Re: Any way to tell if a world is newly generated?

I think the question comes up, are you wanting to check if it's a new world or a new map? If it is actually the latter, then simply looking for an existing map database is the cleanest way to go, because that file is not created until the map generator runs (which in most cases doesn't happen until ...

Re: minetest needs an RPC api

an example of how this RPC API would be used is for weather simulation. its not reasonable to run weather simulations on the server at a large scale. This is something I had actually briefly considered several years ago while developing the weather simulator for the JT2 server. I had considered the...

Re: [Mod] Doors Redux [doors]

Thanks for the heads up about the Cool Trees incompatibility. I'm not sure why I had removed that section of code, but it does appear that logic is essential for integration with certain mods, so I can re-add it along with the other fixes.

Re: [Mod] dynamic spawning area [spawnarea]

How am I oversimplifying? I said I "I visited several popular MT servers over the holidays, and I was surprised to see that they all followed the exact same scheme". And indeed that is what I did, and that is what I found. Nice job, eliminating the entire first half of my sentence so as to...

Here is a helper function for obtaining the daypart as a string, useful for ensuring that certain events only occur at specific periods of the day; e.g. having a cicada sound only play during the evening hours. function to_daypart( time ) -- by half: -- * 6am - 6pm (daytime) -- * 6pm - 6am (nighttim...

Re: [Mod] dynamic spawning area [spawnarea]

I made this because I really dislike the way most servers feel the same. It's also part of my attempt to automate admin work on servers. Usually there is one spawn, then radiating outward the areas get protected by players and new players have to walk far (on one of the four straight roads) I visit...

Re: [Server] Just Test Tribute (200 Years)

Three cheers to all of our players for making this NYE celebration extra hype! We hosted two separate countdowns, for both our European and American visitors. However, due to a mixup with the timezones, I ended up rescheduling the second event for the Central U.S. instead of the Eastern U.S. But th...

Re: pushing minetest further in the direction of being a game engine

I actually rather like the overall concept, even if it still needs a bit of refinement. I'd even been talking with some of my own players on JT2 about releasing a standalone branded client, with a server list specifically for the Just Test Tribute game (it seems a lot of of my desktop players only k...

We Made It to 200! Cheers to everyone that attended our bicentennial party on Thursday, December 30! It was more than I had hoped for, and then some. What better way to pay homage to the original just test server then by commemorating 200 years with pure chaos and destruction! Given that a new cent...

Re: How to override shift-click behavior?

I worked around this limitation on my server by adding a new node property called "override_sneak" that when set to "true" allows overriding the builtin shift-clicking behavior. Here is the snippet of code from builtin/item.lua: function core.item_place(itemstack, placer, pointed...

Re: How do I grant a privilege to only certain players, but not the server operator?

I understand perfectly well how to grant privileges, but every privilege is automatically assumed by the server operator. I don't want the server operator to have EVERY privilege.

How do I grant a privilege to only certain players, but not the server operator?

There are situations where it would be ideal to grant a privilege to one or more players, without that privilege being assumed by the server operator by default. A simple use case would be head moderators having a colorful star icon shown above their head. Obviously a star icon is not something that...

Happy 2022 everyone! Believe it or not, I'm still recovering from all the special events as of late. 🐰 The Easter Eggs Games 🐰 Due to the extended downtime of the server, Wuzzy's Easter egg hunt was still underway well into December, leading some to dub it the "Christmas Egg Hunt". However, the games have concluded as of yesterday, now that every chocolate egg has been found! https://i.i...
