Re: Game Concept/Daydream: The Phasing Fortress

Nicely written, but more importantly you have a good mechanical solution that relates to what I've wondered for years. One problem in Mine*-style gameplay is that usually in order to progress you have to play mostly as a wanderer, nomad, explorer - many terms for the same thing. But it's an engine d...

Re: Forum is now hosted by celeron55 (report issues here)

I moved devwiki (dev.minetest.net) also. I had to update mediawiki, and as a result there are some glitches in the ParserFunctions usage for the languages. I hope someone with mediawiki experience is able to fix it. All the extensions are still enabled, but they are updated versions.

but a bit of surprise, I didn't see any announcement about it (a plan, a preparing) and was hit fully nice: they do backup ohhh: they move the forum as often, decisions around mt are just there ... I just hope only moved, and no change of compatibility also What would life be without surprises 8)

Re: About my donation link on the website (and a poll)

$100 a week is already much more than I would expect to ever get though, no matter how I spent the money or begged for it, so in practice it doesn't matter.

Patreon is outdated. Paypal is a safe bet. I use KOFI and it works fine too.
Wait what, Ko-fi says they take 0% fees. Where do they get the money to run their business? To me it seems they're just growing their userbase and afterwards will add fees.

Re: About my donation link on the website

PayPal is reasonably priced compared to more fleshed out alternatives, but it seems a service that provides some openness and the option for recurring payments could be more along the lines of what people expect these days. For example if using Patreon, I can imagine there would be a few people who'...

About my donation link on the website (and a poll)

I was reading this https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?p=392751#p392751 and I could barely believe this part. Is this what people commonly think? 4. Open code, close money The only way to donate is through the website, and it's a PayPal donation link. I find it quite contradictory that a FOSS p...

Re: celeron55's roadmap

Added to Goal 2: Maintain features and art styles for games After a decade of existing, MT has come far enough that some games want to maintain their function and art style. Games should be able to maintain their function and art style without players having to change settings. This means that if so...

Re: celeron55's roadmap

I deleted outdated parts from the first post. Here are notable changes: We effectively have releases with multiple subgames now, with the content database accessible from the client. I removed every subitem from "Measure and fix rendering bottlenecks". Everything seemed outdated, but the o...

Re: How to increase mapgen_limit more than 31000?

What if I say increasing the coordinate space will decrease performance for everyone, not just the 3 people using the increased coordinate space? This is due to obvious reasons: Coordinates take more space in memory, which decreases the amount of coordinates that will fit in the CPU cache among othe...

New forum moderators needed

There's been a bit of a lack of moderator attention on this forum for some time now and I need to do something about it. If you visit the forum often and feel like you'd like to do something when you see spam, PM me to volunteer as a moderator. New moderators will be assigned as "Helpers" ...

I think it might be possible to build even the newest MT for windows xp, but it gets tricky. You need to use custom builds and outdated versions of some libraries.

But yeah, I agree with Linuxdirk, damage is done and now can't be revoked without cutting off people from the chat; as far as it can matter, I changed title again) That's not true. The unofficial discord existed before the bridge was made and almost nobody has moved to Discord due to it. On the con...

Celeron55 recently wrote on IRC that migrating from IRC is 'unthinkable', so the decision has been made. Please stop pulling opinions branded as mine out of your ass. I've never said that referring to anything else than Discord. As for the actual topic here: I think Matrix is definitely a better id...

So I ask you: where are the others? I've been reading this thread, but don't have much to say. For me the hardest part in delegating is I'm not a social person and don't know people. Re: Minetest radical graphical rework

Personally I'm a bit particular about menu design philosophies (structure wise), but visually this looks ok. Not simply a color theme. Unique enough, flashy enough, simple enough, flexible enough. It's a bit 90s, which is kind of cool these days. Also, it's a simple enough concept to be applied anyw...

Re: Minetest Game now in maintenance/bugfix-only mode, no feature PRs accepted

I don't think there's need for this much polarization. Assuming different games don't want to call their nodes and items the same, we can (should?) define an API that games can implement that allows a mod to know the names of some very common things, like those that Sokomine listed. The API can also...

All valid points. However, they're more about culture and less about rules (except for a few). Everyone can take what they can from these. But did you know? Anyone can become a core dev by suggesting themselves or their friend to me. I hate headhunting and I don't have an HR department so you have t...
