Re: Simplex noise patented, how to deal with it?
"simplex's patent only covers 3d+" and thats a problem if you want to use the noise to create animated textures, because you usually make an n dimensional noise changing smoothly over time by adding one dimension and setting it to a value that increases with time. so for 2D animated noise,...

Simplex noise patented, how to deal with it?
I recently saw that the Simplex noise is patented. My questions are now: Is the perlin noise (as described in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perlin_noise) patented too? (I want to use 4 Dimensional Perlin noise for MT) I think that there are actually absolutely no patents regarding the Perlin noise -...

But it's so small... (only 121 lines are added)
why didn't you review it yet?
Come on... 121 lines... that's like a short story.

Re: There are too many PRs
Why is https://github.com/minetest/minetest/pull/9907 not merged yet? Its a PR allowing servers to send shaders to the client, as media... This means that a server can greatly enhance the client's graphical effects in a way that best fits the server's overall ambiance... I don't have to tell you ho...

Re: The ContentDB is doing its own thing!
Some recent replies showed me that my position is yet to be fully understood. Therefore, I will clarify my position now, by reacting to the most recent replies: ----------------------------------------------------- Edit: I messed up the quotes here: Why should the community have a say here? The firs...

Re: The ContentDB is doing its own thing!
At first, a little clarification: I like the design and the functionality (except the rating system) of the ContentDB. I think it's technically well-made software, and I acknowledge that Rubenwardy put so much time into it. Regarding how polished ContentDB is, it must have cost him a lot of time. My...

Re: The ContentDB is doing its own thing!
I see your point, But why not have some fair rating system??? I think that that would be an even better solution than to ignore the unfairness!!!

The ContentDB is doing its own thing!
I have not been interested in Minetest for a long time, because I don't like and therefore don't use FOSS licenses and thus the Minetest community actively prohibited me from posting my work on this forum, making it effectively impossible for me to publish my non-FOSS stuff properly. But enough cryi...

Re: Making a free License that enforces proper attribution
So yeah, please do not include an advertisement clause like in the 4-clause BSD license. It just makes things so annoying. I think, that's exactly the point of all of this. He doesn't want anyone to fork his stuff so this could be helpful for him ;) NO! I just want to get credits for all forks, too.

Re: Making a free License that enforces proper attribution
Thank you Wuzzy, you helped me find the free license that suits me best: OpenSSL License. I just did not know that there were licenses with such an advertisement clause! This changes everything! : ) I think there should be a thread about such licenses. Thank you very much, Wuzzy! You helped me find ...

Re: Making a free License that enforces proper attribution
As you might know, I didn't like free licenses … … and because of this you want us (who DO like free licenses) create a nonfree license for you? Terms enforcing proper attribution do NOT make a license unfree! Actually, most free licenses DO require some sort of attribution! @Linuxdirk: I simply do...

Re: Making a free License that enforces proper attribution
I am not a lawyer but that uhh... seems impossible to comply with. Think about it: Even if software is linked from a web page, it has to be hosted somewhere . Even if you try to comply with the license by making such a page, I'd imagine you could still be liable if the direct download link to the s...

Making a free License that enforces proper attribution
As you might know, I didn't like free licenses because it's damn hard to define proper attribution and I think that all free licenses (I know) fail at that point. Thus I thought of a license having the following feature: You may redistribute the software or derivative works only on web pages that &q...

"hybrid" games
I often had problems with the forum rules, so i want to clarify this in advance. I tought about making games that don't contain all nececary stuff, but rather a part of it. Instead they are distributed as an "installer", wich downloads/contains the new stuff and then merges it with the new...

Re: Securing formspec code (code examples)
@v-rob : reducing my advices to encryption is not appreciated, especially since my final advice about ho to secure formspec code has nothing to do with encryption.
but i agree that encryption is off topic. (since it's not nececary, md5 is fine)
i will make a secure formspec mod using my idea.

How about tweaking the apples so they don't cure instantly, but, for example, -a short time (3 s) after eating. -continously for some time (12 s) some time (3 s) after eating. -add cool-down (stix proposal, seems to be supported by many ctf pros) Why? -also, it makes advantages through traps and oth...

Your whole """"""example""""""" is stupid since the client needn't to decypher any bit of the data it returns. It just gets a package wich is signed and encrypted, and returns it as is, and i don't see why one need a shared secret key,...
