Would be interesting to see the code for this, if it's still a problem. Sounds very odd

Re: Hard limit on item registration?

A spam bot copied this thread, which brought my attention to it. Commenting here in case someone finds this via google

paramat is wrong: as far as I know, there's no limit on craftitems and tools. The only limit is on nodes, which is limited to 32768. Perhaps you accidentally changed the name?

Re: Expired certificate on Minetest Developer wiki

When trying to visit Minetest developer wiki (dev.minetest.net) I see an error that secure connection could not be established. When viewing more details it shows that the certificate expired on 2021-05-25 (Tue, 25 May 2021 01:30:12 GMT). You should renew the certificate or direct this information ...

Re: How do I tell if a Minetest mod can support 5.0 versions

and I'd assume all of the mods displayed there are compatible with 5.0 type versions Correct, the content dialog only shows versions compatible with your running version. This is based on whether the mod author has specified their mod as requiring a certain version, however, so it may not always be...

I almost think it would warrant a point release, maybe 5.4.2 to let more people experience it without compiling it themselves. It doesn't seem like it would break anything for those playing Minetest without shadows.
Point releases must only contain bug fixes. Dynamic shadows aren't a bug fix :P

Re: A non MultiCraft server list please.

Even if it were feasible, it's not worth doing. Minetest is an open source project, and so software freedom is important

The correct way to filter based on forks would be using the engine name variable, which forms part of the version string

Re: A non MultiCraft server list please.

Multicraft official servers are no longer on the server list, under the decision of the author. Other multicraft servers receive a score penalty to counteract the benefit they get from supporting multiple major versions And I agree that it makes sense to have a "Vanilla-Minetest-only" filt...

Re: ContantDB - task failed - Unknown server error

ContentDB hides unexpected errors to avoid information being leaked. But I can see the error. The error says that you have an invalid dependency mod name: lucky_block? . Mod names can only contain alphanumeric characters and underscores. You've probably put a question mark into a depends = field, th...

Re: Modding Tutorial Book (new: Code architecture, unit testing)

Hi, no that code is correct. itemname would be a variable

Code: Select all

local itemname = "dirt"

itemname = minetest.registered_aliases[itemname] or itemname
I'll update the book to include that local Def to make it clearer

Done.

The rule about content removal are only about mods etc, it doesn't apply to accounts or posts. I disagree with the rule anyway, users should be free to delete their posts

MS currently makes Github slightly incompatible to the outside world using bullshit reasons for justification . There is no incompatibility here. The default branches in Git aren't hardcoded. Re: JavaScript for moddding

TypeScript is very nice, it makes writing JavaScript much more enjoyable. It's completely open source and cross platform. It doesn't drag users to MS's environment One reason that companies open source their libraries is because it helps them recruit developers. It's easier to find people that know ...

Re: Register ABM that affects all nodes

It's a really really bad idea to register ABMs for all nodes. This will kill performance

It's better to use global steps and manually check around players with LVMs when you want to do lots of updates

Re: Is there any future to Multithreaded Minetest?

Minetest is already multithreaded: map generation runs in a different thread (Lua mapgen will block the server thread, though), as do the server and client. Just naively throwing threads at a problem is likely to make your program slower and crash more. It takes a lot of design and effort to create ...
