Re: Mod versions - include "version" file

If you're using ContentDB within the main menu to install mods, it will automatically track versions and prompt you to update things If you're not using the CDB dialog, you should instead use Git Including version files doesn't really make sense for modders to do - it's inconvenient, and tags perfor...

You can then use the author and name to get the most recent 30 releases of that mod. https://content.minetest.net/api/packages/Linuxdirk/hunger_ng/releases/ You can get all the releases for the mod using that API. It's only the API for all packages that's limited to 30, as there's quite a few thous...

Re: [Game] MineClone 2 [0.71.0]

Is mineclone5 official? If it's an official experimental branch, then it's up to you all whether you want the same topic or not. If it's semi official or unofficial, then you should make a different topic Mineclone5 is a confusing name, something like Mineclone2 Alpha, or Experiments, or something w...

You need to get that package specifically, eg: https://content.minetest.net/api/packag ... y/conquer/

Also, see this doc to learn how the Minetest ContentDB dialog installs and manages mods: https://github.com/minetest/contentdb/b ... _client.md

Re: ContentDB - database for the mod/game/txp in-menu installer

“Must have a high res cover image screenshot” is very questionable. There are a lot of helper mods or mods that provide an API only. Those could never be featured then. Helper mods and API mods should never be featured, as they're not applicable to users. Featured Packages is a very user-facing fea...

Re: ContentDB - database for the mod/game/txp in-menu installer

I'm curious, why is the discussion happening on Discord, rather than IRC (which is kind of the middle ground for the community)? There is definitely a non-negligible part of the community that don't use Discord, but pretty much everyone is bridged to IRC, regardless of their stance regarding free s...

No, the dev wiki doesn't count as official documentation. It also should have never been documented in the dev wiki.

Re: No longer a way to check if player is online?

it definitely did exist, it was the backbone of my old mod ocular networks' power system lol OK, searching the commit history, is_player_connected() was added in 2013 (0.4.7) but never documented. You shouldn't use undocumented functions as they can be removed or changed without warning If you have...

Re: No longer a way to check if player is online?

I don't recall is_player_connected ever existing, maybe it was in an early 0.4 version

The correct way to do this is to use minetest.get_player_by_name(name). This isn't hacky but is a well defined part of the API

The textures tab doesn't exist as of 5.0. It's in "Content" now.

Go to Content, click your texture pack, and then click Use Texturepack

paramat is wrong: as far as I know, there's no limit on craftitems and tools. The only limit is on nodes, which is limited to 32768. Perhaps you accidentally changed the name?

This is based on whether the mod author has specified their mod as requiring a certain version, however, so it may not always be...

I almost think it would warrant a point release, maybe 5.4.2 to let more people experience it without compiling it themselves. It doesn't seem like it would break anything for those playing Minetest without shadows.
Point releases must only contain bug fixes. Dynamic shadows aren't a bug fix :P

Re: A non MultiCraft server list please.

Even if it were feasible, it's not worth doing. Minetest is an open source project, and so software freedom is important

The correct way to filter based on forks would be using the engine name variable, which forms part of the version string

Re: A non MultiCraft server list please.

Multicraft official servers are no longer on the server list, under the decision of the author. Other multicraft servers receive a score penalty to counteract the benefit they get from supporting multiple major versions And I agree that it makes sense to have a "Vanilla-Minetest-only" filt...

ContentDB hides unexpected errors to avoid information being leaked. But I can see the error. The error says that you have an invalid dependency mod name: lucky_block? . Mod names can only contain alphanumeric characters and underscores. You've probably put a question mark into a depends = field, th...

Hi, no that code is correct. itemname would be a variable

Code: Select all

local itemname = "dirt"

itemname = minetest.registered_aliases[itemname] or itemname
I'll update the book to include that local Def to make it clearer
