Re: Minetest Game: polish, improvements and "game juice".

Visuals, sounds etc. are of course important, but they are more of a cosmetic value and imo could be easily ceded to the modders/content creators. There are some other issues that imo need to be addressed if MT is even to be an easily moddable piece of software. Modders definitely shouldn't bother a...

Re: Damage inflicted by speed, not height

Thinking about it, also related: collision detection callback. Entity collision detection entirely via callback in Minetest S3. :) The callback receives both old_vel and new_vel as well as the axis of collision, so it would be easy to inflict damage based on speed. I will see about opening a PR and...

Sounds so exciting... However does it obliterate creatures as well? Especially spiders?... ;)

Re: Increase Render Distance?

You need to increase the 'max_block_generate_distance' setting as well as 'max_block_send_distance'. And how to prevent rendered blocks from unloading from memory? It seems to me that the interface changed in advanced options section in the main menu in the latest version and increasing time of unl...

Re: Post your Screenshots of Terrain!

Some of my absolute favourite terrain are the ravines on the JT2 @test@ server. These pictures, of course don't do justice to the sheer enormity. To venture through by boat is pretty epic. Definitely an other-worldly experience :) https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19381&hilit=canyon an...

Re: Post your Screenshots of Terrain!

Lots of options, fairly speedy, under 2 second ongen. Help, comments, or suggestions welcome. Shad Interesting, well done. I'll have to take a look at it, it potentially can provide quite a few new types of landscapes. For now I'm busy evaluating different configurations for MT mods with respect to...

At first glimpse it actually looks like an undercut rocky shore reflected in the water. Nice pic.

Walking simulators... In these crazy times a perfect occasion to escape reality and relax. BTW I find MTG much more enticing than, say, Protheus (however you have to make your own playlist of favourite music first). https://forum.minetest.net/download/file.php?mode=view&id=21604&sid=f5b29857427c8159...

Re: Post your Screenshots of Terrain!

Voronoi influenced mapgen. Voronoi patchworks are very useful in a number of real-life applications and it's a very interesting and somewhat 'natural' idea to make use of them in terrain generation. But a practical question arises about the unavoidable shortcomings of this method -- how fast is it ...

Re: Post your Screenshots of Terrain!

My mapgen project is making progress, I now have a simulation of erosion during pre-processing, which gives a more natural-looking terrain. Now I can say there's not a bit of exagerration in calling your mapgen fully professional. However still enjoying rambling through your Valleys, tweaked a lot,...

Eroded Extreme

This is setting of parameters for Eroded Extreme Valleys. If you like a lot of mountain hiking, but don't like sea it's definitely perfectly fit for your liking :) Sea-level lakes are small and rather scarce, so finding them is always sort of explorer's achievement. Personally I find its jungle fore...

Re: Do you think Mapgen V6 is the comfiest of all mapgens?

V6 is a mapgen which I'd say is able to generate 'plausible' albeit not realistic worlds. The same to some extent applies to v7. I especially like caves in v6, with those walkable corridors, galleries, hidden passages, underground chambers and cloisters forking into intricate mazes. Exploring these ...

For me Minetest is better than Minecraft. Well, I adore Minecraft a lot, is a great and eternal game indeed, but Minetest has something special for me. But the worst thing for me is the lighting. When I play Minecraft I feel it quite diferent. The colors and light in Minetest are "sad" and "dull". ...
