Re: [REVERTED!] Debug coordinates will no longer be visible for unprivileged players after 5.4.0
Good that this was cancelled, however I don't think letting the server control client-side debug info is useful or a good idea. Let the server provide HUDs the normal way if they want to have custom position/heading/whatever and keep the debug screen the way it is. What the hell is the point of lett...

Re: [Mod] Trucraft Lib [trucraft]
How about the Forge vs Fabric debate though? How does it fare in multiplayer? Fabric? I've not used it enough to know anything about it really, but from what I can tell it's better than forge in terms of its performance and ease of use yet lacks the population of mods and userbase that Forge has. I...

Re: [Mod] Trucraft Lib [trucraft]
I might make a different account at some point to store my old code and so on but when that time arises I'll probably just be making the replacements I mentioned anyway.

Re: [Mod] Trucraft Lib [trucraft]
I would like to urge you not to take a "scorched earth" approach to leaving, making your mods private. That goes against the nature of opensource, which lets other people use the code to build upon or make something similar or better. People are free to use the mods however they like; you...

Re: [Mod] Trucraft Lib [trucraft]
I'm not doing anything related to minetest modding/gamedev anymore because I've decided that for the original reason I learnt it (making my own voxel game) it will be both easier and produce a better quality result to make it a minecraft modpack. I'm also not happy with the code quality or the textu...

Re: A new name for Minetest
I agree that it would be a waste of time, but for a different reason: MTG. Like it or not, minetest is a minecraft clone in the eyes of everyone except its small userbase, and that's going to remain true as long as the default game is a minecraft clone. Minetest is absolutely not a Minecraft clone ...

Re: A new name for Minetest
My suggestion is not renaming anything and stay as it is. Why? I think it doesn't already make any sense, because 'Minetest' name is already well-established and all-known long ago and renaming it would raise only a confusion among all users. Also, it would cause plurality of problems, as it would ...

Re: 2021 Minetest GAME JAM [December 1st-21st] [$600+ prize pool] [IT HAS BEGUN]
I would err on the side of caution and use ranged_weapons' API (if it has one), but include your own guns and textures. That way it can't be considered central without taking into account your own work on it, and it'll fit better into a cohesive mold.

Also: are there system requirements? If I make a game that will run slower on comparatively low-end computers, does that negatively affect my score? I wouldn't exclude the possibility that the jury decides to award bonus scores to more efficient games. The minetest engine itself is pretty inefficie...

Re: touchpad does not work if i walk (W)
Many old laptops do not support using a synaptic device while a key is pressed. Can you hold two keys at once, and have them both work? If not, changing settings won't fix this; it's a hardware problem.

Re: The future of Minetest
I agree with daret here, what they're saying is that minetest should be technically capable of everything the minecraft engine can do, not that minetest should implement any of minecraft's content.

Re: Why should anyone become involved in minetest?
Exactly. For me, minetest is a hobby that's fun because it's small and niche. My other favorite game community, Minecraft modding, is already becoming a corporatized as large companies capitalize on forge modding to make Ad revenue and such. I'd rather people be interested in minetest for what it is...

Re: Why should anyone become involved in minetest?
On and off for the past year I've been developing a mod that generates a new set of unique content per-world. This includes biomes, node types such as types of stone or wood, ores & other materials, mobs, structure types, food, items, and hopefully eventually lively NPC's and lore, dwarf-fortres...
