Re: Post your mod requests/ideas here
Washed-out concrete. Also infamous amongst our German users as Waschbeton . Think prefab_redo meets The Seventies. For those who believe normal concrete isn't nearly ugly enough and too timeless. And you think cobbleboxes are bad. I'd like to see a raw and a polished variant, both also as tiles with...

Re: Promoting Minetest
Hi, I have permission to act as Minetest's public relations person. Minetest has the following official accounts: https://twitter.com/minetestproject https://fosstodon.org/@Minetest/ More followers on Mastodon than on Twitter? This has to be a first. I think these horrible data mining spyware compa...

Re: Should we "advertise" Minetest better ?
People need an incentive to play Minetest. It can't be the numbers (Minecraft is more succesful with all of them). It can't be open source (in real-life players actually do not care). It can't be it's freeness ("I can get a cracked account whenever I want and play Minecraft for free, too"...

Re: (Just for fun) Why Minetest Game will never be realistic
You can erect a huge building on the surface and dig out a basement underneath it afterwards with no cave-in risk, even if the basement is bigger than the actual building. In fact, you can add pillars inside the basement after you've dug it out, but you don't have to. You can build towers, skyscrap...

Re: An Android version test from a young German casual playe
The casual player believes KNOWS that Notch (or Microsoft if they're too young to know about pre-Microsoft Minecraft) invented the voxel mining game genre which therefore only consists of Minecraft (the alleged original) and Minecraft ripoffs that fail badly at being Minecraft because they aren't Mi...

Took some of us a while to get there, but it was fun. (I hope you halfway survived my wine.) Something else: It seems like the wiki hasn't been doing any indexing for a while nouw. Newer pages don't appear as search results, newly-created links don't appear under "what links here", and pag...

Cut down jungle trees. Or mahogany. Or ebony. Use the wood for yourself or even sell it. It's perfectly legal.

Re: Adventures in Minetest (tell your gameplay stories)
Do you have a sequoia in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? So I had that new game going on. I had found a large grass plane, a river nearby where I could farm. Well, then the moretrees trees started popping up. Not too far from my WIP house in an otherwise treeless and almost flat area, ...

Re: How to "advertise" Minetest better ?
* How: Well, we shouldn't do what FLOSS projects usually do, namely sit and wait until someone comes and discovers us. There are two ways I can see working. One is to approach the FLOSS community because even there Minetest is largely unknown. The other one is to approach gamers who have only ever ...

Cows roaming free everywhere. And they let you milk them. Ditto sheep that let you shear them. One cow gives a full bucket of milk within a split-second. Wolves never come in packs. In fact, you can domesticise them with ease: Feed them, and they'll turn into fully obedient dogs. Tortoises can jump...

Re: Should we "advertise" Minetest better ?
Minetest needs better marketing (ahem, Mine test doesn't inspire confidence) but not necessarily advertising. We are already notable in the open source gaming community, with some extra polish in-game and value proposition online then it will be easier to draw in players The open source gaming comm...

If I may make a suggestion: Something should happen to moss if the tree node underneath it is mined away. Right now it simply stays afloat. Maybe leaf_decay might be a good idea since we don't really have any use for moss right now anyway, at least not to my knowledge. Or it could simply fall like s...

That'd be on Redwood Island, not too far from the station (the station building was actually the first real building I've created on that server). It isn't hard to find, it's right between a sea channel and a fresh water lake, and it has got a big farm next to it. Also, at night, it's the only redwo...

Been banned recently for not obeying server rules that you didn't bother to read anyway? Well, that's one way of dealing with that. The other two are: Setting up your own public server where you're boss, where nobody can ban you. Get some script-kiddie tool and (try to) DDoS the public server you've...

Hm, depends on what I build... Tree-Houses When I build a treehouse, I more or less convert the tree into a house. To see what comes out look on Linuxworks NG or Hirnfrei(incomplete). Speaking of tree houses, when I encounter a redwood tree, I can rarely resist hollowing it out and making it a lite...

As unfinished as this may be, leading to savegame breakage with just about every update on Outback, it's looking good so far. I have been exploring and I really like it. I just found a Eucalyptus camaldulensis! It didn't drop a limb on me so I am okay. Might be, uh, "fun" to make gum trees...

You can carry lava in steel buckets. You can forge stone tools back into shape on an anvil. Ditto diamond tools. In fact, pickaxe blades made of solid diamond. You can shovel one cubic metre of gravel within two seconds. Repeatedly. You can make the sun rise whenever you want it to. MESE. Mithril. Sloped lakes. You can legally grow weed in broad daylight. And then you use it all only to make ropes. You fell a tree, and the moss that used to be on the trun...

Re: What's your building style?
My single-player, non-creative style is "pretty, but functional and halfway realistic" and often adapted to the landscape. Usually, my first building consists entirely of wood. That is, if I've got lots of baked clay, I prefer that as a building material. When playing without fallen_nodes,...

Re: Help me please to move from minecraft to minetest
The main difference between Minecraft and Minetest is: Minecraft is intended to be a 100% complete game with all your heart's desires pre-installed and then some. Modding is optional, and as far as I know, it can still be quite hackish. Minetest, however, isn't a game at all. It's a modding platform...
