I think the main problem is, that there is nothing hot. There are just flames, you would need coal or something for the best effect. Like this Texture pack very much :) Only one thing I don't like that much was the active furnance so I just modified it. (I am not quite sure if its legal) http://www.pic-upload.de/view-15197064/default_furnace_front_active.png.html it's 512x512 px, hope you like it. Have fun with it, if you like :)
