Re: Collision

PolySaken come on, of course we have noclip disabled we're talking about actual collision issues not some noob mistake we're not 5yr-olds ;) I think I more than make that obvious myself by hacking the b3d format XD EDIT: btw, the reason cats posted about it is because it affects him worse than me he...

Re: How to use b3d in blender?

just want to mention I've reverse-engineered the script, and as a python programmer, I want to say I'm disgusted and appalled. I don't mean to throw shame on the developer, cause you can tell from the code they were a noob and probably didn't know anything about optimization... but what's appalling ...

Re: change tiles of nodeitem

lol ah so I'm not alone with the mod being hidden from me XD but anyways, yeah I'm not gonna stop work on my mod just because of it (too late now) if anything, I'll likely continue his work in my mod, and possibly help him on his :) woulda been nice to have known about before even starting this thre...

Re: change tiles of nodeitem

oh interesting, apparently what I'm doing is already a mod: (I like how DDG never showed me this) https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?p=247958#p247958 looking at the code though, it doesn't do too much different from what I currently do, and has the same issue I had earlier where the stack wasn...

Re: change tiles of nodeitem

you could apply item properties to the hand without having the hand actually be an item :/ as for the default tool, that's another story, though I'm not saying to remove the functionality entirely just make the hand model overridable (including items) without making it an item. but yeah, having full...

Re: change tiles of nodeitem

honestly, thinking about this even more the hand being an item is rather the wrong approach as it allows a mod to take advantage of items that aren't supposed to be items. for example, when I was working on another mod, I've actually had item_drop create a drop of the hand on a crash caused by minet...

Re: Collision

I know what he's going through, and it happens in both 5.2.0 and 0.4.16 basically, as you jump, walk, or place blocks, sometimes you'll fall through a block or place a block at your location (both feet and head) this also happens with entities, which will get stuck inside the walls for example the I...

Re: change tiles of nodeitem

don't forget emissive textures, I could do some amazing stuff with them ;D
(what? look at my avatar, the green is emissive, with a photoshopped bloom)

but yeah, if you know of anything at all I could do to get dynamic functionality going for this
like ABMs (idk) or anything, please fill me in :)

Re: change tiles of nodeitem

eh, I don't like the idea of scanning skinsdb or some other future unreleased mod plus if I did that, new players won't have their hand skin viewable the first time they join as the new texture would have to be registered... so yeah, it'd be better if a client registered their texture with the serve...

Re: change tiles of nodeitem

ok, so I'm not sure if it has something to do with the node name, or if it's because registration takes place after the internal server has started, but while it does seem to work, the hand is an unknown item when set... EDIT: ok so I just tried registering a node with the same name before joinplaye...

Re: change tiles of nodeitem

oh ok, thanks and thanks I see it now, the callback for on_joinplayer is defined within an array and called within the core namespace... or in other words, the same exact issues I had with minetest.after(), which I now no longer use because it's not a C++ function like I initially thought. using glo...

Re: change tiles of nodeitem

oof, yeah I was trying to avoid registering numerous nodes like that maybe through some sort of dynamic texture or something of that sort but anyways, how would I schedule a registration per texture, because it errors out (modname is nil) last I tried from joinplayer?? that, and I have no idea how t...

change tiles of nodeitem

so I'm working on a mod that replaces the player's hand with a nodeitem (credit to rubenwardy for the idea) it works good so far (pre 5.0.0 worlds only), but I'm having trouble setting the hand to the appropriate texture minetest.register_on_joinplayer(function(player) local inv = player:get_invento...

hopefully these'll get pushed to be official builds released on the website download page :D
they run more than well, even on my various machines ;D

Re: need information for mining nodes

The idea is to intercept the drops before they are procesed. that was my initial idea, but that means redirecting every block mining event through an extra LUA layer if you have 100 players on your server, that'll get sluggish real fast ;) (that's probably the reason the item_drop mod replaces it) ...

Re: need information for mining nodes

ok, this should be the absolute last thing I need to do so my mod works, but because of something I'm not sure how to control, the action stops abruptly how do I delay the initial node drop?? I do have item_drop installed, but I need access to whatever calls it before the dignode callbacks... bah, w...

Re: need information for mining nodes

woops I messed that icode up I did look at that, I just wasn't recalling correctly :P but yeah, alright, so it doesn't pre-calculate remaining uses... but from what's poorly described (for an API reference), I assume tool.wear would be what I'm looking for, right?? (I say "poorly described" because ...

one last thing
does tool:get_tool_capabilities().uses return the remaining uses, or the full uses??

reason I ask is I want the continued operations to stop if the remaining uses is 1

Re: need information for mining nodes

oh I see
I thought it was what happened just before the node disappeared from being dug
my mistake :)

and thanks
for what I'm working on, while I've learned I don't need the test that was previously described
I still need it for the continued operations of that code
so it helped regardless :)

oh shoot o.o I was looking to calculate wear and time myself, but this is absolutely helpful indeed, that sent me on the right direction, thanks :) though I had to do a little extra research to figure out what tool_capabilities were and how to get them: https://minetest.gitlab.io/minetest/tools/#exa...

need information for mining nodes

I can't seem to figure out how to check if a tool can mine a node the few mods I've looked at use string.match(), but that takes neither into account the type of tool being used, nor the strength of the node the tool can mine... what is the recommended approach for this?? minetest.register_on_dignod...
