Re: Homepage minetest.net sucks at showcasing games

I don't think that page is an abomination. It just serves a different purpose from those other pages. If there is a problem, it's perhaps that the "download a game" link on the home page leads to the Customize page with an extra click to get to ContentDB instead of the other way around. I ...

Re: Does dirt with coniferous litter exist?

The textures should be in default/textures/default_coniferous_litter.png and ..._side.png, and the registration is in default/nodes.lua. They were added in late 2017, maybe you have an older version?

Re: How to "advertise" Minetest better ?

An optional tutorial would probably help some new users, but please nothing that I have to dismiss/skip or click next, next, next every time I reinstall Minetest. See the Firefox "new install" experience (notice I didn't say "new user") for an example of how not to do it. General...

Re: [Mod] Mobs Redo [1.50] [mobs]

Is there any way to fix the way hostile mobs chase their targets so they don't do that goofy spinning thing when they're directly above or below the target? I'm thinking mobs should switch to a different mode of horizontal movement once their horizontal position is within 2-3 blocks from the target'...

Re: [Mod] Not So Simple Mobs [3.0] [nssm]

Actually I am using your version, but I may very well have been using the original (from ContentDB) when I ran into that problem. I've wiped and rebuilt with different mods a few times since then, and the first thing I always do is plop a base deep underground so I can idle in peace. But I just test...

Re: [Mod] Not So Simple Mobs [3.0] [nssm]

Is it just me or can the mobs see through walls and even many layers of rock? I dug into the middle of a mountain, at least 10 blocks away from any edge, and after idling for a bit, there were all kinds of mobs around the perimeter blindly trying to walk/fly into the side of the mountain. And they'r...

Re: Are we not worried that Minetest is depending on MS now?

I don't think Microsoft would attack Minetest unless it's based on (what they believe are) legal grounds, like they recently did with a much smaller and newer project that was allegedly violating Minecraft's copyright and API. Note, they didn't simply make GitHub delete the repo. They sent a DMCA no...

Re: Making a public server

If you're hosting a server from behind a router (almost certainly, these days), then you need to go into the router's settings and enable "port forwarding" between the router and your computer. The port that Minetest listens on is 30000 if you haven't changed it. When a client tries to con...

Re: P2P

I'm pretty sure that fully decentralized, real-time, open world gameplay is still uncharted territory. One thing Minetest could do in theory is host static assets (3D models, textures, sounds) on a p2p platform like IPFS, which would relieve some of the load on a popular server with a lot of new pla...

Re: [Mod][Merged] Valleys Mapgen [valleys_mapgen]

Thank you so much for making this, my personal favorite mapgen (in conjunction with ethereal et al). I wish more servers would use it! However, there is one problem: It always makes me feel a little guilty when I start digging and building and generally destroying the landscape. I just have to remin...
