Re: Help: Setting up, running, and maintaining a server

I couldn't get minetest-server to install with any of the similar packages in the Ubuntu repositories, so I just added the normal buster repository to install the Debian version. I have the server up and running now, and I tweaked a few of the settings in the minetest.conf file. In minetest.conf, I ...

Re: [Modpack] Home Decor [git] [homedecor_modpack]

I really need to learn how to use mesecons properly. So, if I connect a mesecon block to a switch via a wire, then from the switch to the rope light, would that allow me to turn the light on and off with the switch?

Re: Help: Setting up, running, and maintaining a server

I can assure you that libspatialindex5 is on the debian buster repositories. Yes, I found it in the normal buster repository. I'm pretty sure Ubuntu has its own backports so you shouldn't have to use debian's instead, if you want to run ubuntu use ubuntu's backports repositories, probably that pack...

Re: Help: Setting up, running, and maintaining a server

I'm already running into an issue. For starters, if anyone's trying to install the most up-to-date, stable minetest-server onto an Ubuntu 20.04 machine, you must do these steps first (make sure you're fully updated before you begin). In a terminal add the buster-backports repository to the sources l...

can you create a diesel locomotive for passengers wagons and modern passengers wagons The moretrains modpack contains an updated Japanese bullet train, including locomotive and passenger carriages. They're very much modern. Unfortunately, you're limited to that style for now, if you're looking for ...

Any idea what I'm doing wrong with the rope lights? I still can't get them to turn on. The other lights (e.g., desk lamp) seem to work fine, just not the rope lights.

Re: Help: Setting up, running, and maintaining a server

I want to make sure I'm following the correct procedures when setting up a Minetest server. I found these two wiki articles about setting up a server on Linux. I don't have any server hardware of my own, so I'll be setting up a VPS on AWS Lightsail with Ubuntu. I don't expect a huge world or lots of...

Re: [Mod] Advanced Trains [advtrains] [2.1.4]

I removed a turnaround, and added some new track to my current line. The trains are following the track just fine, but they're completely ignoring the speed limit signs on the new section of track. It's been a few weeks since I worked with track, so I'm sure I'm just forgetting something. I put the ...

Just downloaded this mod, and I'm really liking it. Great job, Vanessa! This is perfect for those builds that need to include furnishings. :) I'm a complete n00b when it comes to mesecons, and I can't figure out how to get the rope light (I'm using the ceiling one) to work. I have a light switch on ...

Shroom caps only decay when you dig a mushroom trunk within 3 blocks of them and there are no other trunks nearby. I saw this comment a few days ago, and I had to test it, since I've never seen shroom caps decay. I went to a shroom biome and found a mushroom tree that was all alone. Then, I removed...

Re: Seeds for Mapgenv7+Ethereal.

Not a v7 map, but it's my favourite I've found so far. Valleys mapgen with seed 10244999266427476490. Very long, thin lake (only about 500 nodes wide, on average, but over 9000 nodes long!) with a few islands and lots of peninsulas. Perfect for the bridge builders out there. :) I found it a bit amus...

Re: [Mod] Advanced Trains [advtrains] [2.1.1]

If you remove tracks using worldedit or dig the node under the rail, the node database still thinks that the rails are there. That must have been it. If I don't remove a segment of track before I remove the block underneath it, the database won't update. Like I said in my previous post, I'll give B...

Re: [Mod] Advanced Trains [advtrains] [2.1.1]

Apart from the floating train, the other main clue to this is that trains are following the old alignment. I can only think of one logical explanation at the moment - did you use worldedit to move the bridge? No, I place and remove all blocks and items in the game manually (I'm a glutton for punish...

Re: Post your mapgen questions here (modding or engine)

Does Minetest need to load the entire map file into RAM, or just the parts it's using at any given time? A world 62000³ nodes seems like an extreme example. I don't know how big the multiplayer server worlds grow, but my personal single-player ones have never exceeded about 2 GB, and Minetest seems ...

Re: Post your mapgen questions here (modding or engine)

I had a wild and crazy idea the other day when it came to mapgens and the amount of processing time a custom Lua generator would require. What if one were to create a custom, predetermined map? The mapgen would require no compute cycles at all, since the map is already generated. For example, say I ...
