Re: Generate smooth LoD distant renders of chunks? Cellular automata block physics?

celeron55 worked on LOD for MT 5 years ago, but it had problems so was not merged. See https://github.com/minetest/minetest/pull/3502 Videos linked in the last post. That last video looks incredibly promising! Any hope of the project being revived? edit: More example projects I could find: https://...

More stuff: MrcView displaying an alternative smooth fade in + fog method, and this article talks about the texturing method employed for the chunk LoD

Generate smooth LoD distant renders of chunks? Cellular automata block physics?

As exemplified by Seeds of Andromeda in this video , they seem to have achieved heightmap-based (?) distant chunk viewing by reducing the level of detail and smoothening out the voxel terrain. This results in a much farther view distance, allowing the players to see a lot more of the world, while al...

Re: Minetest Game: polish, improvements and "game juice".

It's too deeply ingrained into Minetest's identity. You abandon MTG, you abandon the entire foundation the game rests on, and you essentially have to start from scratch. This is very wrong. MT does not need to be ingrained with any game. MT is a game engine, not a game. MT has zero reliance on MTG,...

Re: Minetest Game: polish, improvements and "game juice".

[] I believe this is the wisest path to take. Either polish MTG to mirror shine or don't include it at all, so that everyone would have to discover on their own terms that this is an engine, and there exist multiple games to try. If there's one project that is very worthy of attention it is Crafter...

Re: Minetest Game: polish, improvements and "game juice".

As I stated before, imho MTG should be abandoned. It looks like a bad Minecraft clone with less features and it gives Minetest a bad name (and bad advertising). It's not as near as becoming a complete game in the next months, so why bothering? The community can create games on its own, and core dev...

Minetest Game: polish, improvements and "game juice".

The purpose of this topic is to offer a comprehensive list of suggestions, tweaks and additions to the base Minetest Game. As its bundled by default with the Minetest engine, I believe it is important to contiune providing support. I disagree with the expressed sentiment to remove Minetest Game enti...

Re: Starting new game, falls to the death

Did you accidentally enable the singlenode map generator in the world creation menu? If that is the case you can switch it back to v7 and worlds will be normal again. Perhaps each generation algorithm could provide some sort of description? As a tooltip or a description box next to the worldgen alg...

Re: [SURVEY] What's the feature you'd like to see improved the most?

What's the thing you'd like to see implemented/improved the most? Why? (CHOOSE ONE AND ONE ONLY) Better networking of GUI's. Current GUI interactions are server-sided, which is absolutely awful and makes the entire experience feel clunky and like worse Minecraft. Worse off, GUI can have some latenc...

Re: Minetest is boring (clickbait) A few thoughts about Mine

Voxel Dungeon was the first modded game I tried running, but it didn't work out - seemed buggy and I couldn't get it to run. I also spawned into a world where I infinitely fell to the ground and died on bedrock to fall damage constantly. Fair enough, description provided information that it was str...

Re: Minetest is boring (clickbait) A few thoughts about Mine

Hey everyone, my first post on this forum after a bunch of lurking and curiosity exploring this Minetest project. Shouldn't gameplay be the focus here? And not just the things you can do, but how it all feels . In Minecraft, everything is fine-tuned to have a specific mood to it: dropped entities fl...
