How do I set my home teleport location so that when I'm lost or need to get out of a sticky situation I can just teleport home?

I meant the icon in the bar is eg some wood, and when I place it, it is eg a cobblestone. Yeah that's the problem I have. Help?

My pictures aren't matching the items

Everytime I log in the pictures don't match and I thought that if I changed the textures then they'd match up but they aren't. They don't appear the same when seen in the hot bar. But when I roll over and put them down they are as they're supposed to be. Help? Please.
