Re: Testing maximum numbers of players

This is really interesting because it is about taking the minetest engine to the limit, I think minecraft servers running on modern hardware (i9 10th gen) can handle around 200 players. Since minetest is more efficient, it could possibly take more players than that using the same hardware, it would ...

Re: Help: Setting up, running, and maintaining a server

If it works inside a LAN then your server is ok. Now if you want it to work over the internet you have to forward the port that your minetest server listens to (by default is 30000), to your server (your computer). Look up the name of your router + port forwarding on the internet. Then you have to g...

Re: Server Of The Week

Hmmm I don't know how successful were the other server hangouts, but it could be a good idea to include a short review of the selected server of the week when voting is finished, this way people reading this post get an idea of what to expect from the servers featured. My vote this week goes to Deut...

Re: Help: Setting up, running, and maintaining a server

Are your friends trying to connect from the internet ? or from a local network ? Also, what IP address are they using to connect ? A good way to start troubleshooting is to try to connect to your server from another computer/cellphone that is in the same network as the server. If this works then you...

Re: Help: Setting up, running, and maintaining a server

If you are worried of your clients not downloading the new mod, then you shouldn't, because every time a client joins a server it receives a list of the files it has to download, so if you added a new mod when old players join they will download the new mod automatically.

Re: Server shuts down in the middle of a game?

Yep, that is a bug that has persisted for a long time in Minetest, I guess we will have to wait for 5.4.0. And the other issues you talk about are likely just because your clients have a slow connection to the server, are you running it on a local network or over the internet ?

Re: Server announce ACCEPTED but never shows in the list

You are right, you can try on your local server to disable the port forwarding on your router and the server won't appear in the public list. I guess you would have to talk with your VPS provider.

Re: Hardcore anarchy server FreedomTest

New update, I added ~1466 skins for use with the wardrobe mod to change skins, I'm still polishing it, but most of the skins work and you have plenty to choose. For this task I made a bash script which I will share in the wardrobe mod's post when it's completely finished. On other news, spawn got a ...

Re: Help: Setting up, running, and maintaining a server

If you are running it on your own computer you have to enter your computer's IP address on the address field and on port leave it on 30000 if you didn't change it.

Re: Help: Setting up, running, and maintaining a server

I couldn't get minetest-server to install with any of the similar packages in the Ubuntu repositories, so I just added the normal buster repository to install the Debian version. I have the server up and running now, and I tweaked a few of the settings in the minetest.conf file. In minetest.conf, I...

Re: Help: Setting up, running, and maintaining a server

I can assure you that libspatialindex5 is on the debian buster repositories (I run my server in debian buster). Well, I'm pretty sure Ubuntu has its own backports so you shouldn't have to use debian's instead, if you want to run ubuntu use ubuntu's backports repositories, probably that package has a...

Re: Create a server on my own pc

I suggest you to read the wiki https://wiki.minetest.net/Setting_up_a_server to set the server_announce setting you have to open your server's configuration file, since you are on windows I think it would be minetest.conf, located in the folder where you extracted the game. So open that file and wri...

Re: Help: Setting up, running, and maintaining a server

Well, if you are setting up a minetest server you shouldn't look info about a minecraft server lol, read in the minetest wiki https://wiki.minetest.net/Server and the pages at the top of this forum. I run a server with an old crappy Pentium 4 so whatever a VPS provides should be enough for at least ...

Re: Create a server on my own pc

For your server to show in the public list you have to set server_announce = true in your server's configuration file, also if you want people from the internet (your friends) to join your server you have to forward the port 30000 in your router to your computer, you will have to set a static IP for...

Re: Hardcore anarchy server FreedomTest

UPDATE: I will be upgrading the ISP to a better one, so the server will be down from november 27 22:00 UTC for ~24 hours. After that new players will be able to join faster and you will have a little bit less lag.

Re: [Mod]Hot Air Balloons [hot_air_balloons]

You are probably right, similar incidents I've witnessed a few times while using default boat - it casts off player's character so to speak leaving him in the water and blatantly sailing away. And as I noticed it happens only when the GPU is busy processing huge landscapes with a wide range of view...

Re: [Mod]Hot Air Balloons [hot_air_balloons]

Hi, I like this mod a lot for transportation haha. I'm having a problem where the balloon randomly disappears mid-air making you fall and die. I'm running minetest 5.3.0 stable with some other mods, the only log was: 2020-11-25 01:47:57: ACTION[Server]: Server: Player moved too fast: V=-9.05011, H=1...
