Re: Minetest's Dirty little secret. It's for creators not players

I don't disagree that Minetest is focused on technical development progress vs player development. However, the minetest community is a self organizing body of individual volunteeers. If there is more focus on technical developments for the engine, that is simply because there are more people contri...

Re: [Mod] Natural slopes [naturalslopeslib]

I've implemented the fix into the untable branch of MeseCraft, we just need confirmation that the issue is fixed. Thank you @Hessed for reporting this and @karamel for suggesting a good fix. Once the fix is confirmed to be working to resolve the issue, I can merge the fix into the main branch of the...

Re: How to create a server on Debian

I used to run that package too. But debian Minetest server is very out of date, it was too out of date for MeseCraft and a lot of players on current clients. I can share my walk through steps on compiling and setting up a service if you are interested. Just reply to this comment and I can post it to...

Re: Fail2ban to protect player logins

It's worth mentioning that fail2ban is useful for handling bans for SSH and other administrative protocols and applications. So if you have a online server, it's recommended to run something to stop brute forcing and DoS anyways. The application level software you've shared is something I'll check o...

Re: Fail2ban to protect player logins

Summary Fail2ban is a service that monitors logs and manages bans to network services. You can use it with minetest to prevent bruteforcing, Denail of service attacks, and just prevent bad actors from interacting with server authentication. Requirements fail2ban installed and enabled Minetest insta...

The engine news sounds exciting. More multi-threaded improvements would be a great bump in performance for a lot of systems.

Re: [Game] SURVIVETEST (WIP)

It seemes like it. Has the dir structure I setup and many of original mod selections.

It's not a problem at all. Keep going! I just wanted people to know what MeseCraft is worthy of a look too since Survivetest seems to have used it as a base to modify from.

Good luck have fun!

@nocturnalwizard, Thanks for the feedback about MeseCraft. I've worked really hard on getting MeseCraft and it's community together. I'd be interested in feedback if you want to share. Re: i3 is threatened with delisting on ContentDB

Honestly, it should probably be an instant delisting if you are found violating these things. Any company would do that to protect their own butts. I really don't see why ContentDB shouldn't when there is a violation of copyright found. Shouldn't use sounds that you don't own in the first place and ...

Re: [WIP] Where are the logs of a MT server ?!

Read your minetest.conf file to see where the logs go or see the options the binary is running with, it can be specified as a command option during executing the main binary. It depends on many factors and distributions often have their own way of handling this, so it's better if you just find them ...

Re: Banned player keeps rejoining with other names

I think the best option is just to ban VPN IP's. But this causes legit players who use VPN's and are well behaved to have to use their real IP's. I've been dealing with a similar scenario with MeseCraft and will have to face this choice soon. I think iptables + blacklist vpn addresses might effectiv...
