Re: [Game] Voxel Dungeon [alpha 1.6.0]
I was curious about this so decided to give it a try, but I don't think I'm doing it right? It seems that it just does regular map generation and puts me on a standard Minetest world . Are there some sort of special settings you're supposed to use? Or some kind of special command? The readme doesn't...

Re: [Mod] Minecraft Monster (Yeah a annother Mobs mod )
I'm not sure if you can claim both copyright and cc by-sa 3.0 This statement doesn't make any sense. CC BY-SA gives you a right to do something you otherwise wouldn't have because of copyright. A license only has any effect if you have copyright, because you are already allowed to do whatever you w...

You can't name a modpack the same thing as a mod inside it. (Or at lest, you couldn't last time I tried it.)

1. Forward the port you're using. Google "port forwarding".
2. To make it appear in the server list, check the "public" checkbox.

Re: What's Minetest still missing over Minecraft?
About unpolishness, even before getting to the menu, there is the title of the engine itself : Mine TEST . First when I heard about the project, I tought it was just a small experiment (like the python version of minecraft) because of the name. Was it a "test" for something? Maybe changin...

Re: Some serious questions from a MC server owner
IP bans are probably one of the dumbest ideas ever implemented on the Internet. IP addresses rotate all the time for most people, and evading an IP ban is as easy as finding a proxy: a neighbor, a library, an Internet cafe, or even Tor. What IP bans end up doing is causing massive collateral damage,...

Re: Some serious questions from a MC server owner
On the topic of performance: the client adjusts how much stuff is rendered to try to achieve a target frame rate which is 30 by default, I believe, so there can be an illusion of the game having lower performance than it really does on fast computers. My old laptop from 2007, which has an Intel Cele...

Re: Administration abuse
And i think, a higher authority should be there to protect the players from this kind of situation... (specifically on public servers) That's not possible. Anyone can run a public server. All that the Minetest devs could do is set a policy about how you're allowed to run servers listed on the serve...

i cant put it in zip format I don't care what system you have. This is simply untrue. rar is native to windows That's wrong. RAR is a third-party proprietary format; it has nothing to do with Windows, and Windows doesn't support it out-of-the-box. The only archives Windows supports out-of-the-box a...

Re: Modding section
Apparently it's down now, so I can't check. But last time I did, MMDB allowed proprietary licenses. I think this is a bad policy. It makes recommending Minetest problematic for those of us who advocate free/libre software, because while Minetest itself might be libre, it would be happy to recommend ...

There are also people like me who care that Minetest is free/libre software and absolutely refuse to use any proprietary software that can be avoided.

If you can't dig your way out, use the /teleport command in the chat, e.g.
The arguments are your x, y, and z coordinates.
Code: Select all
/teleport 0 10 0

I've been seeing people complaining about how you need javascript enabled to use Mediafire. When was the last time you used Google Drive? Google Drive requires a lot more gratuitous JavaScript than Mediafire, last time I checked. Dropbox too IIRC, but Dropbox lets you hotlink to the files, and peop...

Re: Garry's Mod proves Minetest must be on Steam
From my understanding the core developers have mostly abandoned new development on Naev. That is not the case for Minetest. Also what is the state of the Naev modding community? It's a wrong understanding, but how can this matter? It doesn't follow that an existing modding community would cause a c...

Re: Garry's Mod proves Minetest must be on Steam
You're right in that getting on Steam Workshop would not attract millions of modders to Minetest. But suppose it only gave us as many modders as there are for Garry's Mod. Why should we suppose that? "You're right that buying a lottery ticket will not get you 1 billion dollars. But suppose it ...

Re: Garry's Mod proves Minetest must be on Steam
If Minetest were on steam, it would have a huge leg up on Minecraft. Millions of people would download it and start contributing Mods and ideas on a scale that Minetest will never see if it doesn't go on steam. You're too optimistic. In the real world, very few if any projects attract "million...

Links to the forum on main site broken
I think this happened when the forum software changed: the links to particular forums on minetest.net are broken. For example, the link to "Mod Releases" points to:

When it should be:
http://forum.minetest.net/viewforum.php?f=11

Re: [Mod] Senderman [senderman]
I tried this yesterday, and it's a scary mob! It felt like they were invincible, and they move fast. Just one problem: why are they showing up in the daytime? I'm not familiar with the Enderman from Minecraft, but shouldn't dangerous creatures generally be out only at night? I had to disable this mo...

Re: Add brainfuck for modding
Writing software in Brainfuck wouldn't be "obfuscation". Obfuscation is where you write code one way, but then only distribute a modified form that's harder to read and modify. If you write a program in Brainfuck, it's just unreadable because of a bad programming practice (using Brainfuck)...

Re: Proposal to improve Minetest’s horrible controls
Controls that depend on too much context sensitivity can be really annoying, but that doesn't mean Minetest should do the other extreme and have a different button for every different thing; that's annoying, too. Personally: - I don't think there are many problems with the mouse controls. Overloadin...
