Re: Old Minetest Changelog

The majority of the "no noticeable changes" I would speculate are changes to the engine. I'm sure you could run some comparisons through git to see exactly what changed with each release. Some 'git black magic' as I believe VanessaE once put it.

Re: Kenney's bounty thread

Kenny has moved on from Minetest, so unless the features benefit Minetest as it is right now, I don't think it would be worth your time implementing those features.

Pretty much this. I hate Minetest on phone, but I used to use it during long car rides.

I don't think its a wise idea subscribing at all. Nothing gets posted there either I don't think, so there isn't much of a point.

And for everyone: please stop trolling, insulting or saying random things about him or anyone else, it might be true but is useless and does not help anyone, and please concentrate on the topic . I see this thread as one of the most serious on this forum, this is not a gossip meeting. It's already ...

He messaged me on an account created within the hour, so I knew it was him. I trolled him good though XD I do hope you know that one can tell he doens't react to trolling the same as anybody else just by looking at the kind of things he says. It does not effect him, and only worsens the situation i...

Re: Better (3D) clouds

I could be completely wrong, but I think that a rewrite of clouds could be done somewhat easily without having to splice code from another game. Actually, I think that I might take a look at the overall skybox code over winter break and see if there is anything that I could do to change that. As I s...

Re: “Minetest” may become a trademark, owned by OldCoder

The trademark is a legitimate issue, as is the user OldCoder, as he is at odds with the Minetest developer team, as said above. However, this is not an invitation to get fired up and attack users, including OldCoder, as that is only something he has been shown to turn into a much bigger problem, and...

@Linuxdirk Out of curiosity, how active are you on IRC/github/all other non-forums forms of communication? Because I'm sure its not just paramat that's making these decisions... Contributions are approved if [at least] two members of the core team agree on them. It appears there is a structure to th...

Re: “Minetest” may become a trademark, owned by OldCoder

There has been discussion once or twice about this on IRC.

I honestly don't understand why OldCoder would attempt to trademark something for sole ownership that he didn't make, nor has helped develop to the extent of my knowledge.

Re: About 0.4.17

@CoffeeKing: Looking at the fact that you have 2 posts, you must be new around here. Many of the developers are very wary of adding mobs to the game. A lot of the mods aren't as polished as the rest of the game. They also have to spawn in a reasonable way. Then after even that is done, there will be...

Re: New Minetest Website?

azekill_DIABLO wrote:...
And it's possible to do that? why the hell did they choose js to do that?

Because JS has been a popular solution for a long time, its just less and less popular now. People still get stuck in the old ways of doing things because its what they know how to do and its easy.

Re: About 0.4.17

They will likely use the magical powers of git to move the parts of Minetest 0.4.17 into 0.5. There is a good reason that they are using the seemingly complicated platform they are. Its powerful and can easily manage versions of things, especially code. So don't worry about them wasting their time.

Re: About 0.4.17

@azekill_DIABLO: People can release a working development model in advance, which is what 0.5-dev is. 0.4.17-dev can also be a development version out at the same time as 0.5-dev. Just the 0.4.17-dev will be more mature than the 0.5-dev version will be. Things do not always have to move linearly whe...

Re: New Minetest Website?

Part of the reason the website is not being changed or worked on is because BlockMen, last I heard, has moved on, and he was mostly in charge of the Minetest website. I think Calinou at one point had worked on it, but what's there now is BlockMen's work afaik. If one wants to go and change the site,...

Re: Multicolor lighting

Currently there is no multicolor lighting. There are some workarounds, using the same principle that makes water look blue when one is in it, but that A. would be a pretty bad way of doing it (wouldn't look great), and B. would make going between colors (red to blue) look weird. Maybe sometime durin...

Re: 0.5.0 Breaking change merged: Settable player collisionb

Some people will always find progress bad.

The devs wouldn't be changing it unless there was a legitimate reason to change, so its for the best I'm sure (I haven't read the change-notes myself yet)

Re: World climate system idea

Pretty good idea. The whole thing about biomes is one that has been very annoying to me. I hate it when I am building a massive structure (kingdom), and the thing crosses into another biome, like snow.
