Re: Minetest in Steam Deck

Tbh, with a form factor like it has, I would have expected something more Gnomelike than KDE like. But then again, I've never held these newer handhelds, so I can't speak to the UX. It's not about Gnome or Kde. It's not even about Linux. It's a device to run a customized version of Steam on to play...

Interesting idea, the scale of the implementation will certainly make for a different experience. I don't know much about Dwarf Fortress, is it theoretically possible to decouple this mapgen from Dwarf Fortress or not?

Too bad branches are not used in the official Git repository. This would allow developing great features without breaking the master branch too much.
Every time I'm reminded of this, I'm surprised the Minetest project hasn't been doing this as standard.

Honestly, I think this is fucking stupid, if Minetest higher ups can give people money for making games, why can't we close source our stuff, why can't we make money, add game encryption and I will start making Minetest games again.
You *can*. Its just frowned upon. But by all means, go ahead.

To my experience, they are afraid of the highly effective command line too. (I do not want to offend anybody, this is just how things are.) Let me correct that misconception: Nobody wants to learn a complicated tool (command line) when they already have grown up using a much simpler, adequate, lowe...

First off, I agree with all your points about the benefits of the current set up. But they are entirely unrelated to the point I'm making. Let me contextualize my perspective. I appreciate Minetest. Minetest needs user growth and exposure to stop it from stagnating. The Minetest community needs to m...

Re: Why should anyone become involved in minetest?

The forums aren't representative, as they're an outdated medium and also had terrible performance issues last year. It's better to look at the Discord, the Matrix, Reddit, and online servers I am extremely concerned the Minetest community is getting split (or it already happened, apparently), and w...

The less you engage the troll, the better.

And imo Minetest Game should be bundled with the engine, as its a great starting point. But maybe don't keep it as the launch preset game.

Minetest is too middling of a game to be the main focus for a large amount of people who want to play sandbox style games. For me, Minetest is cathartic, not so much fun. There are at least 5 other games I have that rank higher than it for fun that I'd prefer to play. Minetest is a great project for...

This is probably one of the easier mods to make. I'd suggest looking into Rubenwardy's book, as this covers probably most of what you'd want to do:
