Re: New map generator “math” generates awesome surreal fract

Funny because I was just thinking about starting a server that used this mapgen. There's a server called "just test" that spawns only stone, but bones can be crafted into dirt. It's a neat concept but fails in its implimentation. Mainly, you need way too many bones to get any dirt (I think...

Numberpad is interpreted as arrows (not numbers) in the menu

A similar problem was mentioned here, as part of his issue, which involved multiple bugs: https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=9543 Steps to reproduce: Type into any of the fields in the menu using the numberpad. Examples include password, username, server address, etc. The problem als...

Mod Idea: Extend Store/Money to a Global Exchange The idea I have is that everyone can place ask/bid prices on materials in a single, global market, with the additional option of market orders. I think it would be great for economy oriented servers. The only downside is that there wouldn't be as mu...

Clients do keep the parts of the map in memory that are relevant to the player. The caching isn't very good. You can leave an area of the map, come back, have absolutely nothing change in the few seconds you were gone, and the server is strained to resend those exact same chunks back to you. Games ...

What we need is something like this:

https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/353

Basically clients should be able to cache the map, meaning the server would only need a fraction of the bandwidth it does now to host players.

Wuzzy there is a /spawn command on a lot of servers. On more than one server I've seen /spawn kill you, liked you'd jumped from a really high cliff to get back, so even a /suicide command would be unoriginal. On landrush you have to type /spawn 1, /spawn 2 etc and all it does is teleport you.

So what is a block, specifically? I read what PilzAdam said in the first thread about this but couldn't figure out what he meant. I've picked up the terminology "node" from playing myself, or maybe reading it used elsewhere, and never really thought much about it. Are all items nodes, basically, and...

a realy cold one caled "Niflheim" http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niflheim and a hot one caled Muspellsheim http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muspellsheim That sounds like a great idea. Have two "nethers", one bellow the other. I think an ice themed nether would be a great addition.

They're not always incompatible. You can install RPMs on deb distros or even extract the archive yourself without going through the package manager. Most are simple tar.bz2 files, which itself usually represents platform independent binaries (tar.gz for source files, tar.bz2 for binaries). Actually ...

So if you have an option to hit ctrl "to show position of cursor" you'll find the cursor is off center slightly and that's why the screen rotates. Resizing the window in the direction that puts the cursor in the middle of the screen fixes the problem. This bug appears to be caused by the 3d engine n...

Sounds a lot like the bug where sometimes lighting just isn't calculated for certain nodes. Like where a portion above ground will be completely black and unseeable with the tiles right beside it perfectly light. To fix it you put up and take down a torch :P. That forces the tiles to recalculate lig...

I was able to create a switching station on the landrush server but had to revert back to coal driven machines. The recipe is extremely iron and copper hungry. Before it took a decent time to get electricity setup. Now the switching station makes it take even longer to get to that point. I would su...

Bronze-tools last longer than steel-ones? . . . Yes, and they have the same speed. So basically the alloy makes the steel tools last longer. It does make sense that bronze tools would last longer than steel tools, as long as we're talking about crucible steel (100% iron). There are other types of s...

Adding tin for a realistic bronze would mean tools less strong than steel, and therefore even more pointless. Technically bronze is harder than forged iron, which is kind of what steel is supposed to be. AFAIK the main difference between iron / steel is how hot you heat the ore to (and even then in...

Well I don't see why you don’t make your 4 block generator underground. Just let water flow into a large pit of lava. It’s not like it’s rare. It’s far easier to get lots and lots of obsidian below ground than it is to build a lava pool above ground, being that you have limited inventory so can only...

Well obsidian doesn't occur naturally anyway. In order to get it you have to carry your own buckets of water -- which already regenerate -- 1 by 1, tediously, and combine them with lava. I can kind of see how having lava at the surface makes this more convenient but the fact that you can't mine stac...

Lava pools / like water

So after playing around with water buckets and making ponds I decided to make a small lava pool and found that the lava wasn't spreading like water. It’s a liquid like water so I don’t see why it doesn't spread the same.

We need portals into the planes of oblivion, complete with fauna that only grows there are mobs that are harder to kill.
