Yeah, but what are the alternatives? Bitbucket and Sourceforge are crap and the GitLab is paid.

Re: Subworlds - how the dimensions could be implemented

It wouldn't really work properly. What if there's mod mismatch between servers (either because one of the servers having an outdated version of a mod, or not having a mod installed)? And if no one is in "the other dimension" the server that handles it still has to be running and taking up ...

Re: 3 reasons to *not* rename Minetest

These reasons are good, but each of them can be countered. Reason 1: Minetest, even when we are talking about the engine, is still a terrible name for an engine. As for Minetest/MTG similarity, I'd posit that it's actually in the interest of the Minetest to rename either of them, possibly both (thou...

Re: Subworlds - how the dimensions could be implemented

It's not clear to me what the advantages are over the "Y-slicing" trick ? The advantage is that now you have entire 60x60x60k area to work with, instead of just a slice of the actual world. Basically, each subworld is another 60k³ area to work with, all the while running on the same serve...

Re: Subworlds - how the dimensions could be implemented

Basically the same kind of integration like with Nether and End in minecrap. Except it would be mod-controlled and the mods would have access to which subworld player is in, so they could do stuff like disallowing placement of water in certain subworlds (an example). And since stuff like player inve...

I am happy that he and AntVenom made videos about it, just wish they weren't one-offs.

Too bad we can't get some really big youtuber on board like Markiplier or PewDiePie.

Subworlds - how the dimensions could be implemented

Basically, a subworld would be just a minetest world, but saved inside the world folder. It would contain much less metadata, only the ones that are required to generate and store world information. All the other information, like what mods are enabled, player inventory, etc. would be inherited from...

Re: Play on Windows tablet

I think it'd be the best to have an ability to use touch controls regardless of the platform. There are Windows touch screen devices (such as Surface), Linux ones and of course Android. Not to mention rare cases of someone wanting to play Minetest with touch controls on their touch screen monitor.

If you can reproduce, start minetest with --debugger, to get a backtrace.
I'd also pipe it to some file via > so that it is saved properly, regardless if Minetest is able to write the log to disk by itself after the crash.

Yeah, the one I've linked in the OP is very cheap. $80/year is barely higher than a price of an AAA game, you tell me you can't save $80 for the entire year? I could do that, and I am not very money-afloat.

How to do something when player double taps the button?

The idea is for me to fork hbsprint and make it more like minecrap's sprint where you just need to double tap W and you are sprinting. But I don't know how to detect double taps.

My understanding is the Minetest game Voxelgarden is the closest thing we have right now to Minetest Classic or Voxelands (AFAIK it's 0.3 reimplemented as a subgame).

Re: [mod] kaeza's/VanessaE's signs library [signs_lib][git]

How do I replace the font used by the mod on the signs? I have a high-res texture pack and having a pixel font really clashes with the look. Also is there a tool that would generate a compatible font from an ordinary TTF/OTF font? Additionally, I've thought about a way to support more colors than ju...

Re: Post your mod requests/ideas here

3D Ladders mod. Can't believe it doesn't exist yet, considering 3D ladder mods/resource packs are a staple of Minecrap. I'm talking about purely visual effect, ladders in Minetest are actually better than in MC as you don't need to keep pressing up to stay on the same height).

Re: It's 2023 and the signs are still terrible

Yeah, that was a thing, shortly before Minetest added modding support. Didn't play this version though, I left when signs placed on the floor just laid there, without actually standing on it (you had to use a fence to make a standing sign). I don't know why it was removed/changed. Maybe these signs ...

Also the hardware requirements are high enough that if you wanted to throw all the shaders at it, you'd have a hard time playing with a decent draw distance and framerate. Got it, not merged yet. Also don't worry, I have RTX 3080 (kinda dated with 40xx on the market and 50xx around the corner, but ...

Does this version include the godrays and autoexp? I want my minetest to be pretty so that I can attract players with my youtube series on the game.

Yeah, and nothing happened with it since 2014 (again, I've asked for this to happen when the game was still called Minetest-C55 and didn't have even 3d tools, just flat sprites. Had rats though. Very flat rats.)
