Re: Cyberbullying via Minetest/IRC

You know. Just don't pay them attention and talk to someone else; if something block them: this is the wonder of new technologies. If something just troll them. The problem is people not having any self-esteem and succumbing to depression because someone they don't know wrote to them on the interne...

Re: [Mod][Merged] Valleys Mapgen [valleys_mapgen]

Heh, seeking geological veracity even in such sandbox-y game would require hundreds, or even thousands, hours of work. All these different rocks, arranged appropriately into layers, different patterns of erosion depending on their durability and so on. Yes, it would be tempting also to me because I...

Re: [Mod][Merged] Valleys Mapgen [valleys_mapgen]

@Gael : what do you think about this: https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=21916 ? Seems that Termos invented sorta pretty decent model of water erosion. By making some flash-flooding here and there you could greatly improve look of your mapgens by removing soil from the steepest slop...

Re: Rivers

It is very difficult to generate rivers that flow into another in a consistent way (I mean, without going uphill, or making loops). Valleys mapgen has river but they don't fulfill these criteria. As far as I know there has been only one good attempt to design such a map generator, it was by MillersM...

Re: [Poll] How did you find out about MT?

The problem with Minetest is its name. I don't think it should be changed, but it may be really confusing to some user as they may mistake it for a Minecraft testing tool / a crappy MC clone that's just a test and is extremely buggy and unstable. Totally agree, that was my very first thought when I...

Re: [Mod][Merged] Valleys Mapgen [valleys_mapgen]

Made the PR just now: minetest#8081.

We are in a context of feature freeze so I don't expect this to be merged before 5.0.

Re: Post your Screenshots of Terrain!

Modified the Lua Valleys Mapgen a bit today, and got interesting results with canyons I did the same modification in the core Valleys Mapgen (code: https://github.com/Gael-de-Sailly/minetest/tree/vmg_canyon ). I will make a pull request soon. Some screenshots: https://user-images.githubusercontent....

Exact same for me, it was Minetest 0.3.1 on Ubuntu 12.04, I did not know at this time that it was awfully outdated and that the current dev version was 0.4.8.

Re: [Mod][Merged] Valleys Mapgen [valleys_mapgen]

I suppose the rivers generation now isn't bundled with the basic terrain generation (except the canyons)? Not sure that it's what you mean, but the 3D river and basic mapgen features are working well, my branch is almost ready for a PR. Canyons is the name I've chosen for this 3D river noise featur...

Re: Mapgen v7 peeves, cracks, cliff rivers, instamountains

it seems to generate these vagely convex vertical cracks, which I'd like to disable in favor of canyons or caves. Is that possible? To adjust mapgen to widen them, or something? This needs to modify some noise parameters. I've tested that: mgv7_np_cave1 = { lacunarity = 2 persistence = 0.5 octaves ...

Re: [Mod][Merged] Valleys Mapgen [valleys_mapgen]

3D noise rivers are now available in my fork of the core --> vmg_canyon If you want to try it out, don't forget to enable the canyons flag. Player spawner is not working for now. Re: Doesn`t display opacity value from Gimp on the vase mode

You have error messages: invalid color: "#COCOCO". I guess you mean #C0C0C0 (with zeros instead of the letter O).

For flowers I don't really see your exact problem, could you show a screenshot?

Re: Mapgen v7 peeves, cracks, cliff rivers, instamountains

I vote for an easy way to configure mapgen. I love v7, but I would like rivers of river water (I love its pale blue color) River water in V7 is not a feature yet, I think this could easily be added but since rivers are at the sea level, won't really make sense (will create a weird discontinuity bet...

Re: Floating colored text

You can display raw text on the HUD but it will be tiny (like in Capture The Flag: https://github.com/MT-CTF/ctf_pvp_engine/blob/d341978/ctf_flag/hud.lua#L89-L97 ) It is also possible to display a floating image on the HUD, this is used in InsideTheBox: https://gitlab.com/sofar/insidethebox/blob/f81...

Re: Mapgen v7 peeves, cracks, cliff rivers, instamountains

I've been thinking along this line as well, ie, mapgen presets. However, me not being a strong C coder, I've been considering Lua options, instead. You don't need C, all the mainmenu is Lua (in builtin/). However, this is not the easiest part. My thinking has been along the lines of presenting the ...

When I see this discussion, I really hope we will have a mapgen presets feature working one day. I tried to code this some time ago, but still have issues (especially I don't know how to detect the setting types in a Setting object). If anyone is interested, the code (not working for now) is here: h...

A is maybe not that easy to enforce that you may think. Most of players who will try to join will be tablet players who are mostly kids, and not all of them will read the age requirement, or even if they read it, will not take it into account. I just remember as an example that when I was 12-13, man...
