Re: Simplex noise patented, how to deal with it?

To my knowledge, the "Perlin noise" in Minetest is just basic interpolation of random values, which differs from the real Perlin noise. I also don't think it's patented, but even if it was, Minetest doesn't actually use it. For Simplex/OpenSimplex I've already searched for a good tutorial/descriptio...

Re: [project] Writing a new procedural mapgen [Help welcome]

Looks good! Have you considered using L-system trees for river generation? I've not really thought about it. I need a river network that fills the whole space in 2D, and that adapts to an input elevation array, and I don't see how L-system can offer this. I see some lakes. This is the first mapgen ...

Re: [project] Writing a new procedural mapgen [Help welcome]

After quite much work, these last days, I managed to transform (twist) the grid in order to smooth rivers. So now the terrain is composed of irregular quadrilaterals instead of square tiles. This makes the whole terrain (and especially rivers) even more natural-looking. This is on the twist branch t...

Re: Post your Screenshots of Terrain!

My mapgen project is making progress, I now have a simulation of erosion during pre-processing, which gives a more natural-looking terrain. https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/6905002/78984911-bcd15d80-7b27-11ea-8212-dc2c59423102.png https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/6905002/78984936-c...

Re: [project] Writing a new procedural mapgen [Help welcome]

Looks great. I tried with your new code but I have errors, again. I will report them on Github. For my part I've worked a bit on erosion and implemented a simplistic erosion model. It was easier than I thought, but it's still very basic. I plan to post the code on Github today. https://user-images.g...

Re: [project] Writing a new procedural mapgen [Help welcome]

Hi Shad, and thank you for your interest. I've looked quickly into your project and your code, your recursive voronoi diagram is an interesting approach that I've not really considered for now. [project] Writing a new procedural mapgen [Help welcome]

Hello, I've been quite absent from Minetest for a year or two, for multiple reasons: I was quite busy with my studies, I also found other hobbies than Minetest, and I had a serious lack of motivation for my coding projects, even when I had some time for it. Now I'm confined at home like half of the ...

Hi Pablo, Thank you for your kind words. Geo Mapgen is not abandoned, it's just going very slowly. I will have more time to spend on it in the upcoming weeks (confined at home because of covid-19…), provided I have enough motivation :) Combining GEBCO and SRTM is a very good idea, and I remember doi...

Re: [Mod] Mapgen from geographical data [geo-mapgen] (Biomes

Hi qu4ntumrush, It looks like your heightmap.dat is truncated so I suppose the converter crashed. Do you get any error while running the converter? If it exits too fast and the size of heightmap.dat is smaller that several megabytes, it's very likely that something went wrong. If you must know, I do...

Re: spontaneous walls of lava issues ???

I suspect the 'multidimensions' mod, as that has a surface dimension containing lava. That is a Lua mapgen that is probably meant to be run in 'singlenode' core mapgen only and is very probably incompatible with other Lua mapgens like 'caverealms' and 'nether'. The combo multidimensions + other_wor...

Re: spontaneous walls of lava issues ???

is there a certain combination of mods that don't work well together or certain mods that should not be used because of being obsolete? or just unneeded It's very possible that several mapgen mods are interacting. It's generally very bad to use 2 or more mapgen mods together. I don't know all your ...

Re: Second dirt_with_snow node [mtg]

This is a nice idea, and it looks great. However i still prefer the snowy side extending 75% down and covering the grass, for a whiter, more wintery look. I don't really agree with this. If you have a very thin snow layer, it can leave some part of the ground apparent, especially where there is stee...

Une erreur de copie, le fichier s'appelle bien world.mt ^^ (chemin complet : /home/minetest/cheznous/world.mt ). Ah ok :) Mais que contient-il ? Peux-tu copier son contenu ? Re: [Mod] Mapgen from geographical data [geo-mapgen] (Biomes

Will this work on android? I've never used Minetest on Android so I don't have an absolute answer, but probably the Lua part will work fine because it doesn't rely on anything external. However the pre-processing part needs a Python installation with Tkinter and GDAL libs (I don't know whether it's...

Re: Are we not worried that Minetest is depending on MS now?

Removing repos for something else than legal reasons will be extremely unpopular and will make thousand of people lose confidence in Github, and they don't have any significant interest in doing so (boosting Minecraft sales by a 1/50k-ish or less, wow!), as Minetest is a tiny community in comparison...

Re: [Server] Inside The Box [Puzzles]

Imo hardcore parkours can be much fun (or at least more fun than boxes where you have to search for levers and co. (*yawn*)) (as long as there are checkpoints). Parkours are no fun at all. Except if they contain only easy, relaxed jumps like "one block up" or "over a gap of two blocks". That's acce...
