Re: Post your mapgen questions here (modding or engine)
I am about to make a mod that adds over 150 biomes to Minetest, but I noticed that every single biome in default has a regular, an ocean, a beach, and an underground. The regular biome is understandable, and I doubt the underground biome type is needed, but I don't want to make an ocean and a beach...

Re: Minetest Game now in maintenance/bugfix-only mode, no feature PRs accepted
Serious question: when did the game of Chess last receive any development effort? I really want to encourage everyone to re-frame this as an MTG success story. The game is finally stable as ThorfinnS correctly says, that's quite an achievement. I think we should be talking about providing LTS for MT...

Re: [Game] grail_test:Hyperborea [WIP]
I have resumed work on Grailtest 5 (Hyperborea).
Pretty much reworked it from the ground up, which along with significant engine changes since the last version, should make for a much smoother experience.

Re: [Game] Nucleus
Tested a random bunch of the most popular mods on ContentDB - Most mods seem to load ok. However, some like mobs and footprints don't actually do what they are supposed to. So far, mods that definitely don't work are: 3d_armor, other_worlds, pipeworks and technic That's not bad considering the minim...

Re: [Game] Nucleus
ootb=out of the box Much good stuff depends on unified dies. It is worth much. How much of that functionality is your mod going to replace? I'm probably not going to replace the functionality of unifieddyes at all. What I can do is make it interoperable with unifieddyes - it currently barfs because...

Re: [Game] Nucleus
Do you want reports of mods which do not work? One basic mod not loading is unified_dyes . Thank you, that's very useful. I don't expect larger mods like unified_dyes to work ootb, but if there is a simple fix I'm happy to apply it. I'm working on a simpler coloured blocks / paint mod. I'm also awa...

Re: Post your mapgen questions here (modding or engine)
Not possible, apart from specifying the vertical size of the blend. I guessed as much. Thanks. It would require an additional 2D noise; personally I think it would be worth it. Does it really impact that much on performance? The horizontal blend is such a thing of beauty and I feel my coastlines an...

Re: [Game] Nucleus
Trying to play it, there is no game named Nucleus, only multiple ones of 'Development Test'. An identifiable name would be a helpful start. Can you explain where 'there' is? I can't see what you're looking at from here. How did you install it? Either git clone or just downloading and extracting the...

Re: Please make more games!
This is my idea of how to refactor 'default' to make a bare-bones modding base - viewtopic.php?f=50&t=25589
It's really a discussion piece, but I'd be willing to develop it further if anyone finds it useful.
It has a design spec.

[Game] Nucleus
What's the point of another modding base? This is literally just a remix of Minetest Game (MTG). The main point of it is to reorganise the mod / folder structure to make it much easier to add, remove or customise individual parts. It's an exercise in splitting up the monolithic 'default' mod whilst...

Vertical blend smoothing
Is it possible to tune the vertical blend? I'm finding it looks messy. What I want is for the contours between biomes to go up and down a bit, with occasional bleed to the other side. The random spatter just makes my coastlines and mountains look messy. It's better than the biome changing all on the...

Re: Minetest Game now in maintenance/bugfix-only mode, no feature PRs accepted
The trouble with standards is that top-down enforcement doesn't work. Standards become so because most people do things that way. The default mod in my games has been stripped right out and defines no nodes at all. Consider that a world might not have 'rock' in it. Unlikely I know, but more likely t...

Re: Please make more games!
So part of the problem is due to the ambiguity of the term 'games'. Mine*(type) environments are not strictly games and the open-endedness somewhat mitigates against conventional game design - you can't play 'Go' on a board with no edges - so most competitive pursuits require in-game arenas and such...

Re: Please make more games!
The new content tab is great. I have discovered several interesting games like NodeCore and Hamlet's Quest as well as useful mods. I have designed a game, took a long break and I've just started on a new one. Neither of them are much more than re-workings of MTG, but I have done considerable work to...
