Re: [Mod] Advanced area protection [areas]
I wonder if there is a way to make areas visible ingame, like the work area from WorldEdit. This would make it a lot easier to set up areas because you don't need to "imagine" where the area is but being able to actually see it. Oh yeah this would be good. I'd love to see greater interope...

[Game] grailtest:Hyperborea [v5]
So yeah, I've pushed out the initial v5 to github if any of you fancy taking it for a test run. As it stands it is still just an improved MTG that has been relocated to medieval Europe. I've included mobs_redo as part of the main package as I feel the game needs mobs in order to provide any level of...

Re: How people might choose servers and the market for servers
I agree with much of that runsy. Laggy mod soup. Many game admins don't pay attention to mod integration and optimisation. Tenplus1 manages to get Xanadu almost lag-free (players can still experience lag, but it's generally due to their internet connections). It's not just fear of risk-taking, as yo...

Re: How people might choose servers and the market for servers
That reminds me of a key piece of information about griefers - most of them are very young players who may not yet be able to differentiate between fantasy and reality, players and bots or have very little idea about the consequences of their actions (similarly a lot of "hackers" are teens...

Re: How people might choose servers and the market for servers
The difference with MUSH was that much more of the code was exposed in-game and territory wasn't finite. So players could create new "rooms" out of air and code objects in and around them. In a world of finite resources you are kind of correct in taking the "property is theft" an...

Re: How people might choose servers and the market for servers
The question of why more people don't play Minetest is a huge part of the problem. I recognise that it's out of scope; But the depressing reality is: Players: 402/1291 Servers: 345/365 A lot of servers are essentially vanity projects, with a slightly different selection of mods and moderation styles...

Re: How people might choose servers and the market for servers
Interesting essay. I will have to read it again to be able to fully comment, but I do have to say that you don't understand anarchy. Most players will take this to mean "no rules", do what ever you want. That's important to understand. I think a better description for that would be "F...

Re: [Game] grailtest:Hyperborea [WIP]
I'm currently working on v5 - codename "Hyperborea". I hope to be able to push something out fairly soon, sorry this has taken so long (yes, about 5 years), mostly due to real life getting in the way :/ Version 5 boasts an extensive core rewrite which has rationalised node names, reduced d...

Re: [MOD] Smart chat [smart_chat]
No need to apologise Clyde. English can be a silly language at the best of times :D It seemed trivial for a PR and I wanted to discuss the meanings because I may have misunderstood some things. As an L1 English speaker and documentation writer, the best way I can help is to provide a bit of language...

Re: [MOD] Smart chat [smart_chat]
Only use apostrophes to mark possession or for concatenation "it is" => "it's"
e.g. "The player's message"
3rd person verbs and plurals just add s on its own
"its" is irregular, even L1 English speakers get this wrong

Re: [MOD] Smart chat [smart_chat]
There are errors in your command descriptions. Suggestions: cmd_all should be "Sends a message to all channels." cmd_free_channel doesn't make sense at all. What do you mean by "Set a channel from permanent free."? do you mean "remove a channel from the permanent list" ...

So all in all if somebody can be called for cruelty among (digital) pandas than that is me http://pathilorra.co.uk/minetest/vikandas.png We have also started work renovating all the roofs of our great posh medieval city. Many of them were found to have panda infestations, which had to be cleared in...

Re: Post your mapgen questions here (modding or engine)
I am about to make a mod that adds over 150 biomes to Minetest, but I noticed that every single biome in default has a regular, an ocean, a beach, and an underground. The regular biome is understandable, and I doubt the underground biome type is needed, but I don't want to make an ocean and a beach...

Re: Minetest Game now in maintenance/bugfix-only mode, no feature PRs accepted
Serious question: when did the game of Chess last receive any development effort? I really want to encourage everyone to re-frame this as an MTG success story. The game is finally stable as ThorfinnS correctly says, that's quite an achievement. I think we should be talking about providing LTS for MT...

Re: [Game] grail_test:Hyperborea [WIP]
I have resumed work on Grailtest 5 (Hyperborea).
Pretty much reworked it from the ground up, which along with significant engine changes since the last version, should make for a much smoother experience.

Re: [Game] Nucleus
Tested a random bunch of the most popular mods on ContentDB - Most mods seem to load ok. However, some like mobs and footprints don't actually do what they are supposed to. So far, mods that definitely don't work are: 3d_armor, other_worlds, pipeworks and technic That's not bad considering the minim...

Re: [Game] Nucleus
ootb=out of the box Much good stuff depends on unified dies. It is worth much. How much of that functionality is your mod going to replace? I'm probably not going to replace the functionality of unifieddyes at all. What I can do is make it interoperable with unifieddyes - it currently barfs because...

Re: [Game] Nucleus
Do you want reports of mods which do not work? One basic mod not loading is unified_dyes . Thank you, that's very useful. I don't expect larger mods like unified_dyes to work ootb, but if there is a simple fix I'm happy to apply it. I'm working on a simpler coloured blocks / paint mod. I'm also awa...

Re: Post your mapgen questions here (modding or engine)
Not possible, apart from specifying the vertical size of the blend. I guessed as much. Thanks. It would require an additional 2D noise; personally I think it would be worth it. Does it really impact that much on performance? The horizontal blend is such a thing of beauty and I feel my coastlines an...

Re: [Game] Nucleus
Trying to play it, there is no game named Nucleus, only multiple ones of 'Development Test'. An identifiable name would be a helpful start. Can you explain where 'there' is? I can't see what you're looking at from here. How did you install it? Either git clone or just downloading and extracting the...

This is my idea of how to refactor 'default' to make a bare-bones modding base - viewtopic.php?f=50&t=25589
It's really a discussion piece, but I'd be willing to develop it further if anyone finds it useful.
It has a design spec.
