I think flowers_plus registers everything as 'flowers' mod in node registration
so you shouldn't have to alter it to work with that mod.
Might have unknown recipe items if flowers_plus isn't used tho.

I had a similar problem with a recent development build of the MT engine.
I couldn't switch between texture packs without manually editing the config file.
It was weird but seems to have been resolved with the latest build.

Well it all boils down to opinion. One of the best parts about Minetest is the ability to tailor mods to your needs. Haven't tried NodeBox Mobs API since it's initial release, but it's obvious Duane is having fun with it. If ccmobs2 gets fixed, it will probably be a reduced adaption of NodeBox Mobs ...

check out PixelBox texture pack by Gambit ( License: WTFPL)
It has some nice textures for the stages of rice.
You are already using variants of his work, so they should fit nicely :)

Get a crafting guide

I don't know about the crafts in the mod topic,
but the ones in the craft guide work for me.

The recipes aren't overly complicated either,
you might want to check to see if there are any
conflicting recipes with your other mods.
