Re: [Server] Inside The Box [Puzzles]

does this counter increase if the same player finishes the box more than once ? sometimes i play my boxes again to see if i can break them in any way after an update or when i think there is an issue... i just dont think one of my boxes got completed by at least 5 diferent people No, I counted uniq...

Re: [Game] Inside The Box [insidethebox]

i think its worth pointing out in the instructions that lsqlite3 needs sqlite3, and for those that install it from the repos, they will need to install the devel version that comes with the header file. for me it was libsqlite3-dev . only then i was able to luarocks install lsqlite3 Maybe. In gener...

Re: [Server] Inside The Box [Puzzles]

Depends on what you like. I personally enjoy parkour a lot, but I think most of the parkour boxes are poor (just a bunch of blocks scattered on the wall, most of the box being empty). There are only a few interesting, nice-looking parkour boxes, like number 332. That's not the most interesting one,...

Not going to happen. The server will continue to run. The person who maintains it might change, of course, especially if someone equally dedicated as me shows up to do so when I'm no longer capable of doing that.

Re: [Server] Inside The Box [Puzzles]

Perks! Yes! We have perks! Perks are special privileges given out to ... established builders. We currently have 2 obtainable perks: - zoom. Player may use the `zoom` feature everywere, including in boxes. - lobby sprint. Player may use the `aux` key to `sprint` in the lobby. Does not work in boxes ...

Re: [Server] Inside The Box [Puzzles]

Due to the insistance of some builders that they should be allowed to submit boxes that took longer to PLAY than to BUILD, I am instating an additional creator rule. :) The goal of this rule isn't to block parkours, but we do want to make sure that most players are physically able to play most level...

Re: [Server] Inside The Box [Puzzles]

I was testing box 534 when I found a way to get stuck. If you complete the ceiling puzzle while standing on one of the ends next to pistons you fall through the floor when the switch happens (slabs are removed revealing pedestal). This can be fix if a clay violet clay block is placed under the wall...

Re: [Server] Inside The Box [Puzzles]

Is the clock reset when one leaves a box because its too hard and returns a while later, then completing it (basically sleeping a night over it, or two, or three, …)? If yes, then many timing statistics are probably garbage. You can certainly debate this a long time, and I know people will be mad e...

Re: Updated Linux Compiling Instructions.

Totally fine for making a server. The only reason to specifically compile the separate server is when you want to run it without e.g. X11 libraries or modify the linked features.

It's been almost 2 years! Can you believe it? Here's some statistics. Yes, there's lies, damn lies, and statistics. Make of that what you want: Tutorial progression rate: https://i.imgur.com/Kd5alUE.png We've had 3500 players complete level 1 in the tutorial and 700 complete the entire tutorial - th...

I posted several threads on this forum about how to choose a license, what licenses are good and bad - feel free to open a new thread and PM me the link - I'd be happy to discuss.

Re: Public Remote Media Server Project

So all servers need to inform the clients about the media licenses on the server. Just no server does that. IF THERE IS NO LICENSE STATEMENT YOU HAVE NO LICENSE TO COPY. You can't just walk into an art store and take photographs of beautiful pictures that are on the walls, even though there is no c...

Re: Public Remote Media Server Project

But doesn’t the server also needs to send the license to the client? That are the terms of distribution for the most open source licenses. This is the same as copyrighted media on websites. The website owner can absolutely provide a copyright statement elsewhere on the server (e.g. a footer or a se...

Re: Why do I stop the OpenSource ?

Minetest changed my life and I don't think this project would produce as much of opportunities if is was proprietary and closed-source. But there are always people who are fundamentally hostile to business. ^ Please read this. This is crucial here. Open Source is a giant misconception. Everyone thi...

Re: Public Remote Media Server Project

It's not 100% Ok to have a list where you can check the licenses(For the most medias). You have to pass the license by the media. I just went one step forward and distributed medias without knowing the license which I should have given by the servers. You are willingly violating copyright. I just i...

Re: Public Remote Media Server Project

It's true that my media server sends a lot unneeded data. My Problem was just that your media server doesn't contain all medias which is partly impossible because some old images doesn't exist in any git repo. That's the reason why I created my collection of medias. It contains all skins from here ...

Re: Simple Static Remote Media Server

I made a script to automatically load all medias of all servers of the serverlist. These media’s are available on my media server. This likely violates the license of the music on ITB, which is not fully OSS. Please remove them from your server and issue a statement that you in fact have removed AL...

Re: Updated Linux Compiling Instructions.

I'm shocked nobody links the actual compile instructions:

https://github.com/minetest/minetest#compiling

It specifically covers topics such as "how to compile a server", and contains the above suggested solution as well as much, much more information.

Re: [Server] Inside The Box [Puzzles]

There's a new mod on the server - `telex`. It allows players to communicate and send messages USING A TERMINAL to other players, and resembles the old `mail` command! I will be using this mechanism from now on to provide review feedback, and you can use it to contact me as well. Here's a short how-d...

Re: Should we "advertise" Minetest better ?

I'm actually for changing the name, so, any sort of paraphrasing that all the devs are shutting this down is not represantative of my opinion nor of others that I've talked with about this topic. If you said "dev X and Y" are shutting it down, I'd have no issue with it, I can see you perce...

Re: Serious limitations of minetest.deserialize

If you have that many table entries, you should look into alternative storage methods that are more efficient at storing that many entries. I would certainly consider `lsqlite3` as a viable alternative - but using lua sockets to talk to a SQL database would also work really well. This depends heavil...

Re: pwdhash in auth.sqlite

The authentication method used is SRP. This makes the hash somewhat non-standard. You'll need to both understand SRP as a mechanism as well as read the code to understand how the hashes are created. What do you mean by : I'd like to authorize my chat system through the auth.sqlite of minetest, as th...

What does English language dominance mean for Minetest? To me, it means that non-english speakers are going to have to code the support for translations, input methods, etc. Forget about people like me who have, despite being non-native english speakers, spent 20+ years in computer technology alrea...

Re: Should we "advertise" Minetest better ?

All efforts in changing the name to something better were ignored or talked to dead by the devs. ahhh right. citation totally not needed, cuz, what you say is totally representative of the facts, history, and context again. And it is in no way attempting to make a certain part of the minetest commu...
