Re: Hello World

I personally learned Minetest modding (and Lua to boot) by complete trial and error with a tiny bit of help from the Developer Wiki (I don't suggest using that, I suggest the Lua API instead). So, I would suggest learning by looking at mods that do similar things to what you want and looking at thei...

Black magic, no doubt about it. Guess that's why you're called sorcerykid.

My result's weren't nearly as good, but I probably did something wrong:

Re: [Mod] Bedrock Markup Language [markup]

Well, unlike the HTML element (which I don't think can be done perfectly in Lua), this seems to be backwards compatible, which is always a nice thing to have.

Re: Post your screenshots!

Monkey paradise Nice. And a good idea, cause afaik there're no monkeys yet in any of the creatures mods. Petz has chimps. My intention is mostly to make the player a monkey, all the leaves and vines are climbable. Well, Minetest does have monkeys because some programmers are monkeys :P OSS: https:/...

I would expect that it probably (for flowing liquids) tells the orientation of the liquid, i.e. what direction it's flowing in.

Honestly, duplicates aren't bad (we aren't Stack Overflow). Duplicates in the open source world add alternatives to people who don't like something in certain software. Each alternative can add things to the others.

Re: [Server] Inside The Box [Puzzles]

Let's make a compromise: The more tools you have in a stack, the faster you can dig with them :P

I think stackable tools is probably the best solution. It's not like you'll really notice, since numbers aren't shown in the wield item.

Re: [Server] Inside The Box [Puzzles]

You can also fill up your inventory with pickaxes in Dock 514 because the minecart keeps going. This seems harder to fix.

Re: [Mod] Fly-B-Gone! [fly_b_gone]

Mobs can be nodes; imagine a slime monster that is a node that only moves one node at a time. Of course, Mob stands for Mobile, so it's debatable whether fireflies/butterflies are actually mobs, since they are animated and appear to move, but they never actually move from their spot.

Adding more BBCode tags

So, the Minetest forums has a nice selection of BBCode tags, some of which are documented in the guide , but others which are documented nowhere, and you have to look at other posts (by quoting them and canceling without posting) to find out how to do them. All the Tags Header Bold , Italic , Underl...

Re: How I pronounce Minetest stuff

If anyone ever organizes any away-from-the-keyboard meeting of some Minetest people somewhere, talking about mese is sure going to be very odd. It was never meant to become anything aside from a joke between a bunch of Finnish programmers. 8) However sometimes I pronounce it like two separate words...

These are two formspecs with the exact same elements with the same positional numbers except that the second one has real_coordinates[true] . https://forum.minetest.net/download/file.php?id=20458 They most definitely have consistent coordinates now. minetest.register_chatcommand("f1", { fu...

Re: Minetest 5.1.0

Both horizontal and vertical are possible at the same time. If I remember correctly, you have to place one scroll_container within another and bind it to two scrollbars, but it might be possible with only one. And as for guess-and-check, I meant you know that a button at (1,1), a field at (1,1), or ...

Re: Review of 5.1.0

Yes. The coordinates are now different, but not necessarily better/cleaner if you have complex formspecs. I recently converted all mTimer formspecs to version 2 coordinates and it was just replacing one mess with another mess . But, it's consistent. No more guess-and-check. That's the real reason I...

Re: [DEV] The horrifying "rebase needed"

I've only messed up a rebase once before commiting and that's because I used the wrong command and it wasn't really a rebase. Otherwise, I've always either aborted the rebase or used the reflog.

So no, I've never found rebases dangerous, just kinda annoying and time-taking.

Re: [mod] Sailing Kit [sailing_kit][wip]

Very cool, but immensely hard to control. Rowing is really slow, so when you crash into a cliff/beach, you aren't getting out of it any time soon. Turning is also really slow. But when you get sailing, it's really fun (until you inevitably crash or nearly do).

Re: What's the best material for making a space station?

If you find a silver sand biome, make a bunch of silver sandstone blocks. They look similar to, but nicer than steel (at least in my opinion) and are much cheaper once you find the biome.

super duper realistic landscapes See, that's one thing I would disagree with..... Much of the real world is bright and colorful, but your landscapes are mainly brown, muddy, and desaturated. Re: [Mod] Advanced Trains [advtrains] [2.0.1 TSS]

I know they're deprecated; I actually made a fork of advtrains a long time ago that was only carts (it didn't go over so well, and I was rather rude about it), and these are newer updated rails. I know some people liked the idea when I made it, but not how I did it. So, these rails are just for if a...

If I was a new user after taking the time to download Minetest and get it working, I wouldn't want to take the time to look for a game for it. Re: [Mod] Advanced Trains [advtrains] [2.0.1 TSS]

I've created a bunch of OBJ models for 45 degree rails. Although I don't use Advanced Trains myself, I figured that I might as well make them anyway. They need to be UV mapped and I think some of the normals have to be flipped (I made these in AutoCAD; I hate Blender), but here they are, if anyone w...
