Re: use_texture_alpha for entities?

Yes, I've noticed it too. I thought it was 70%, but I didn't test it much TBH. Definitely a bug; are there any existing issues for it on GitHub?

Re: Glowing nodes? Is it possible?

I do not believe it is possible. Setting light to a tiny value like 1 can kind of achieve this, but not very well. I think the reason for glowing entities an such is because calculating light for that kind of thing would be tricky, so glow was more of a workaround than a feature.

Minetest Lua API syntax highlighting for Notepad++

I use Notepad++ for all code I write, and I consider it much better than Atom and VSCode and suchlike (smaller size, less RAM usage, and all the features I've ever needed). I like function highlighting, so I went through the Lua API and added all the functions, globals, classes, and methods from the...

Re: Content database for in-menu installer - add your things!

rob, do you have a point? If you don't like an argument why interject yourself into one and add an obtuse subject? My point is that the argument is worthless. It will go back and forth forever with no one getting anywhere. It's a waste of effort, and it won't change the core dev's minds because the...

Re: Content database for in-menu installer - add your things!

It seems to me that most people are under the impression that Minetest is a democracy. It's an oligarchy. The devs have decided on the policy, and that's that. Don't start screaming about this instead because it won't do any good. Honestly, if Minetest was a democracy, nothing would get done at all,...

Re: Forum is now hosted by celeron55 (report issues here)

You are able to upload zips, but my guess is that your file is too large. Files can not be bigger than 1 MB, so if your file is larger than that, you'll have to upload it to some other website.

What's the thing you'd like to see implemented/improved the most? Why? (CHOOSE ONE AND ONE ONLY) Dynamic asset loading, like textures, sound, etc. Can you name other two minor things you'd like to see implemented/improved and why? - Built-in text on node faces, i.e. signs_lib capability built into ...

Re: How do you open formspec over another

There is no such thing as a "sub-formspec". When a formspec is shown, it overrides the other completely. You'll have to store the old one somehow.

Re: Use a node to show formspec of a chest (given by positio

You might be able to call the node's on_rightclick function manually, something like (untested): -- `clicker`, `itemstack`, and `pointed_thing` come from your `on_rightclick` function -- `pointed_thing` might need to be modified somehow, but I doubt chests require it. minetest.registered_nodes["...

Re: Post your Screenshots of Terrain!

That is some beautiful terrain, but it definitely doesn't look very practical to build a gigantic castle on :)

I love seeing the rivers combining together, and some of the steep waterfalls further back. It will be cool when we see some thicker rivers as well.

Re: What's the deal with the forums lately?

I've also had a situation where the CSS wasn't fully loaded, leading to a very basic view. I think it might have something to do with this: In total there are 617 users online :: 8 registered, 0 hidden and 609 guests (based on users active over the past 5 minutes) My guess is that a majority of thos...

Re: Question about adding biomes in v6 gen without hard codi

Currently, there is no easy way besides something like a ridiculous solution with voxelmanip.

I believe paramat is working on a new version of v6 that uses the modern biome system instead of hardcoded biomes.

Re: Why I'm not using formspec_version 3

If it ain't broken, don't fix it. I personally probably won't convert my formspecs until I have to. If I'm changing my formspecs a large amount, then I'll convert my formspecs, but otherwise, there's not much reason to. Formspec version 3 has some other benefits besides consistent coordinates. For i...

Re: [merge requested] Sprite enhancements

I'm very glad to see sprites getting some love. I thought briefly about improving sprites, but you seem to have done many thing I wouldn't have thought of. I would love to see a variable number of faces for select_horiz_by_yawpitch because four seems a little limiting, and most games I've seen with ...

This is, and always will be, the best release date. I'd prefer to wait a few more days than to have a rushed and buggy update.

Re: Other, Superior Open Source Game Engines Exist Now... :D

I believe the reason Antarctica is not used is because it is licensed under the GPL, whereas Minetest specifically wants to stick with LGPL. As for getting Minetest's license changed, well, that's not going to happen.

Re: Race condition on closing/reopening formspec

If this is a problem caused by using minetest.close_formspec followed by minetest.show_formspec to update a form, don't close the formspec at all. minetest.close_formspec should only be used for just that -- closing the formspec. minetest.show_formspec both shows and reshows (updates) a formspec wit...

Re: New main menu design - feedback requested

I'll be absolutely frank: I think I will dislike any major main menu overhaul similar to the one proposed. Too much clicking is involved, and tons of different menus here, there, and everywhere is just bound to overwhelm the new user, not help him find what he is supposed to do. Add a scroll contain...

Re: Help with licensing stuff

I agree that using a custom license will probably get you into trouble. And I don't think that non-commercial licenses are intrinsically evil or something, but I don't think they're a good idea for two reasons: 1) People who violate licenses don't care what kind of license it is, and DMCAs are a pai...

Re: Naming convention for library mods

Indeed, sorcerykid's work on this is impressive. I plan to use imagen to draw track maps for advtrains, and am thinking about porting some/all of advtrains' formspecs to ActiveFormspec. It's just that I lack time to do that currently... I am planning at some point to make a canvas formspec element;...
