Yes, it is possible to add mods after creating a world, however if they impact the map generation, it will only take effect in newly generated parts of the world.

Re: Light levels above 15

Doing so would likely break all existing Minetest maps, not to mention it would make light computations more expensive.

Re: First Person Shooter

Minetest is not really suited to a FPS right now, because of the lack of client-side scripting, there won't be prediction for bullets and other projectiles, which means players will have to lead their shots depending of their latency.

registration is locked because of repeated attacks of banned players. it should be fixed soon. Is there actual work being done for xanadu or minetest that would prevent future attacks? Well, I'm mainly interested in how often they would update, so how long I'd be waiting for the latest server build. :) Last time I looked at Ubuntu, the latest server version was woefully out of date... (Minetest server) Any common distro, I can harden, no problem. :) You probably shouldn't use the...

Re: Some serious questions from a MC server owner

So, How does -AMD A-Series A4 4000 2x 3.0 GHZ (Dual-Core) -4GB RAM sound? Old box was DOA, pretty much. Picked this one up cheap. Can probably add RAM, will have to peek inside once it arrives. Got 16 Gigs of DDR3 collecting dust anyways. The RAM should be enough, but that CPU is very weak, especia...

You could give Fedora Server a try, if you want recent software but still a relatively robust distribution. (Disclaimer: I've never actually used it, but I've heard good things about it.)

Normalement, à moins qu'il y ait une faille de sécurité dans Minetest (peu probable, mais ça peut arriver), non.

Re: Running a minetest server on an old pc

OK, thanks for the advise! So how much ram would i need? I want to run quite a few mods, such as mesecons, pipeworks, moreores, technic, moreblocks, animals_modpack, unified_inventory, etc. I would advise having at least 2 GB of RAM, 1 GB of RAM might be too few, even if you're running some lightwe...

Re: Running a minetest server on an old pc

For 10 players, a Pentium D might struggle quite a bit, even if you're got 2 GB of RAM or more. I suggest you try with that setup, and if it's too slow, try using dedicated_server_step = 0.2 in minetest.conf (it halves the tick rate, from 10 TPS to 5 TPS). Don't forget about network bandwidth too (i...

Re: Speed up time when joining a server

If you're hosting a server, you can create a "remote media" server. This is basically a static web server (Apache, nginx, lighttpd, … anything should be fine, even Python's HTTP server) that serves media files (mod textures, models and sounds). You'll need to configure it to a publicly accessible do...

This would probably require those who want to install it to jailbreak their iDevice, since iOS does not allow downloading random apps from the Web, unlike Android.
