Re: Post your modding questions here

Some mods have a file mod.conf, but I found no documentation about that file and its usage.

Can someone explain, or give a pointer to more info ?

Re: generate world: fixed size / other parameters

At the moment there is no parameter for such a thing as "make my world an island" or "surround my world with high mountains". Your best chance at the moment would be the fractal mapgen. Please post if you find an usefull allgorithm for that. :-D Water shouldn't be too difficult,...

generate world: fixed size / other parameters

Minetest has several mapgenerators, but they only take the random seed as a parameter. I would like to have a smaller world (say 1000x500x1000), surrounded by air, ocean, high mountains, a lava-moat, or maybe a fence :) But there is no dialog to specify such things. There is a mod WorldEdge , but th...

Re: MinetestMapperGui - Graphical userinterface for mtmapper

* map features/drawscale: the generated picture is not wide enough to show the last number of the x-axis yes, your right. But thats a problem of minetestmapper itself. Ill create a Issue there. Re: MinetestMapperGui - Graphical userinterface for mtmapper

I tried MinetestMapperGui with the tiny map of TutorialWorld (128x128), and noticed: * map features/drawscale: the generated picture is not wide enough to show the last number of the x-axis * map limits: ** scalefactor: for such a small map, an enlarging scalefactor would be nice BTW, can the mapper...

Re: Proposal to improve Minetest’s horrible controls

vote for more control config options: I would like to also have an alternate key for each function, e.g. forward = W or CursorUp, inventory = I or Tab, etc. BTW, there are no keys for turning the player. Adding turn-left and turn-right would also improve the controls for the boat. Sneak would make ...

extended pause-menu

I mean the menu that pops up when you press ESC, with the buttons for Continue/Sound volume/Change Keys/Exit, and the textboxes about build-info (version, etc.) and the default controls. It would be nice if this dialog would also show some more useful info, e.g. * Welcome-text for the current game /...

Re: Is it possible to hide game console in windows?

Change the language setting in the "Advanced Settings" window under "Client and Server" to your language. Edit the minetest.conf file manually if your language isn't in the dropdown menu. This will make Minetest to use the MSVC localization workaround and start it as a new proce...

How to access bones?

In my quest to get every type of item in the game (1), I was a bit too careless around lava :-) Now I have 3-4 bones, and I'm not sure how they should work. I can drop them, place them on the floor or wall, and pick them up again, but how to access/get their contents ? There is free space in my inve...

Saves bones locations to text file. Then player can choose to locate bones via waypoints .. Gameplay: efficent mining

There are not many tips about the actual gameplay on the wiki or forum, so how about efficent mining ? E.g., digging stairs straight ahead to the depth where the minerals start to appear, and there digging corridors separated by 2 blocks will get 8 blocks explored for every 2 digs, like so: ... ...N...

debug.txt with date/time

I think it would be useful if the name of the logfile would automatically
get date+time added, like the screenshots.

Also, an option to start a new logfile instead of those "Separator"-lines.
And and option to specify the path where the logfile should be written.

I'm running a fresh install of Minetest 0.4.14 on windows, with minetest_game, no mods. I got several crashes when writing to a book, but it wasn't reproducible when running with more logging. That is, the program simply ended, the last entry in debug.txt is 2016-10-17 21:08:55: ACTION[Server]: sing...

Check the logs (debug.txt) and find out where you placed down many blocks at.. /home only works after you have set your home-position with /sethome , and crafting a bed to is quite some work. The logfile gets huge, fast. No point reading it, your only chance is to search, e.g. for items like "...
