What can be done with client side lua ? 1 - Maps of all kinds, ores, caves etc, user added tags, etc.. 2 - Clocks and compasses (ore detector etc). 3 - Computer interface (its currently impossible) 4 - Sound streaming from server...

Re: JavaScript for moddding

I write my own programming languages for breakfest.

Lua is ok.

Real programmers (TM) can use any turing complete language, period.

You can do with luajit:

(Keep in mind that there are always variables that i can be ignoring). The problem with lua is that the script is free to do calls like "os.fopen". worse, we can call arbitrary libraries. Solving this would equal to rewriting the whole lua library. Its doable ? Yes, but who will spare his time to do...

My mod works only on linux, maybe you might be interested in an javascript source code that if translated to lua would allow emulating a 6502 computer. If you do the translation i can work on porting the microsoft basic to it. Currently i am working with lib6502 which is a unix only 6502 emulator li...

But if minetest doesnt use a single line of code from minecraft, how can they claim "copyright" ? Notch is not the inventor of voxel worlds, infiniminer came before minecraft and is even referenced on minecraft's wiki : http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Infiniminer Even then, minetest is done in C++ wh...

Oh please, dont take that all that personally.

Everyone is subject to some kind of prejudice, we are humans.

What's wrong is to plainly ignore it even when someone else points it out so clearly.

Sorry, you dont buy me with that skewed rhetoric.

Fear is the major basis of prejudice (the other being economic interest, but in this case this doesnt apply).

So you are basically saying the same thing with other words.

You assume, preemptively, that people will dislike the game. There you have, implicitly, the idea that the ones who like the game right now have some kind of subjective advantage that allows them to like the game while the masses cannot. Thats prejudice. A massive amount of players could very well l...

My argument was a polite way to tell that nobody cares if someone dislikes an opensource game, and that the true motivation is elitism*. Got it now ? OTH the reason might very well be that no one have thought about that before or that they simply dont want to spend a hundred bucks themselves. * (May...

Who the fuck cares about people being critics ? If they dont like minetest, no one is forcing them to use. In the other part of your argument you present a false dichotomy : Who is asking minetest to be removed from github or sourceforge ? Is not a dichotomy, ie.: Minetest can be on github, sourcefo...

I already did: it doesn't have mobs. We've already seen Minecraft players reject Minetest for this reason. So the only thing that separates minetest from mainstream is having mobs ? Nonsense. Like i said earlier, having more players (thus being more popular) gives you more people interested in deve...

Can someone CARE to PROVE that the game "is not ready" ?

This is a kind of mantra, is usually said to make someone appear wise, but i never see any substance on the argument, besides rote repetition.

If the game was ready, why would anyone need more coders ?

Makes no sense.

theres no such thing as being ready.

you go as you go.

"You cannot know how is to be something without being that something." (I believe the original Hegel phrase was not like that, but this is a translation from the portuguese equivalent).
