Re: What's Minetest still missing over Minecraft?

C++ is the bare minimum for this, and would be sufficient. A client side API would be for mods to reduce their lag. For example, immersive sounds only on client. Or simple formspec reactions, like toggling a button's text. The client side API would have to have no access to the clients file system ...

Re: Music in Minetest...

Seriously, just get a Pandora account and play some radio if whatever you think appropriate. I do that all the time. Just turn on some internet music player and do some work. There are two problems with that suggestion: 1. Pandora requires proprietary, defective by design software. 2. Playing rando...

Re: Infinite world size

Infinite world size isn't really needed, but it would be nice to make it appear infinite by making it like a torus: causing the edges to wrap. People don't really need an infinite world, but just being stopped from moving in one direction because you've reached the edge (maybe because you decided to...

Re: "Use" Key (E) Not working

sfan5 wrote:You can use the I key to open the inventory, the E key currently does not have any use. (besides walking fast)

Putting "I" in italics makes it look like "/", so I want to point out, the key to open the inventory screen is in fact "I" (uppercase i), not "/".

Re: What's Minetest still missing over Minecraft?

Everyone is talking about features and presentation, but isn't it obvious what fundamental element is lacking? Players. The biggest Minetest servers might have 15 players on at once in the best case. How many players tend to be on the biggest Minecraft servers?

Re: Forum software switch

I've noticed that some people's replies (mostly those from when the old forum software was used) have blank titles and replies to those are being titled just "Re:", which makes it difficult to tell what topic they're in from a feed reader. Looks like an artifact from the transition. I don'...

People not using feeds don't know what they're missing. Ever since I started using them, the time I've saved has been tremendous, and I'm able to follow more sites.

It is, but that's a topic feed. Not a feed for all posts in the whole forum.

One thing I'm sure many people don't care about since they don't know how convenient it is: phpBB has much better feeds than the current forum. The current one only follows new topics, not new posts in existing topics. wut? wutwutwut? Have you tried clicking on 'New posts' in the top right? That do...

Probably you checked the "'Use' = climb down" checkbox. The "use" key is E by default, so either it switched it to I for you when you made E the inventory key, or you did so without thinking about it. What version of Minetest do you have, by the way? I'm not sure what "special1" is, the menu doesn't...

Though the fact that that one linked to the Minetest source code and didn't try to hide the fact that it's a port of Minetest suggests a non-malicious intent, so maybe they'll correct the problem if they're sent a simple message explaining what they need to do, unlike the "Buildcraft" guy.

Version numbers are arbitrary. Comparing the version numbers of two different projects is completely meaningless.

So only those that know how to compile, know how to get all the needed resources and have acces to a device this can be done on should be allowed to play Minetest? What a stupid statement! Everyone ought to learn how to look at the readme and follow directions. Honestly, it's not that hard to compile C++ code that is distributed with makefile generator scripts, supports cmake, etc (unless you're on Windows).

It's already possible to control the mouse with the keyboard, in German, it's called "Tastaturmaus", I think. In English it is called Mouse Keys. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mouse_keys ) Mouse keys is designed for accessibility, not gaming... mouse keys on my system, for example, is a little ch...

This would be a good start for making Minetest playable in situations where a mouse doesn't make sense (on the TV, with a laptop off of a table, etc). It would be even better if Minetest could support gamepads directly rather than having to use software like Qjoypad, but I guess that's harder, so st...

I don't approve since you're choosing to make it proprietary, and I can't use it anyway since it's Windows-only. Re-do it in something that works on GNU/Linux systems (maybe Qt; try the Qt Designer, it's very nice) and release it as free/libre software, and I would be interested.

That's why there's something called improvising so that it can run with whatever hardware it can. The question isn't really whether it's possible, but whether it's worth it . I suppose it would be possible to "port" Minetest to the PS2 by rewriting everything in assembly, and maybe the performance ...

So next version will be 0.4.10, not 0.5? The dot is not a decimal point. Each of the three numbers is completely separate and represents a different level of change. I don't know Minetest's policy for what kinds of changes increment what numbers, but version 0.5.0 should not be expected until there...
