It fails to decompress data while reading a chunk. There is 2 reasons I can see: there may be an error in heightmap.dat file structure, or the mod is trying to read the file from the wrong position.
What map were you using?

animal_modpack/mobf is indeed extremely obsolete, becomes more and more difficult to use on recent Minetest versions. It's unlikely that waiting stupidly would fix anything more. Shutting down the server is mostly for clearing the RAM, and this doesn't take more than several seconds.

For the map glitch, I still don't understand. The map loads by chunks of 16x16x16 nodes, so how could he make vertical moves of only 1-2 nodes, or even less?
