Re: The Beauty of Minetest: Canyon Country

Tried just now, it was amazing. Great discovery.
But we can find many other places that look great, we could make a list of these remarkable mapgen features.

Re: [Server] Capture the Flag Server (Guns!)

Spawn should obviously be at some distance from the flag, and cobble nodes below, unbreakable. This would solve the issues that omikekimo pointed out.

Re: [Mod] Map generation from DEM [geo-mapgen] (WIP)

I'm working on rivers on a new branch. They should work now, although the code is not very stable for now. Download Code You can try by adding the parameter "-r 2000" when launching the py script (this parameter represents the surface needed for catchment area to be drawn as a river, so de...

Re: [Mod] Map generation from DEM [geo-mapgen] (WIP)

image_convert.py has been sped up a lot by using BytesIO instead of bytes concatenation. My computer now takes 7 seconds to convert a 6000² px image instead of 65 seconds before!

Re: [Mod] Map generation from DEM [geo-mapgen] (WIP)

This looks very cool. Make a good collection of real world maps and you won't need to bother with mapgens anymore. I can't wait to see how you deal with water features. Rivers are planned, I have already written the algorithm on python side: rivermapper.py , that for now transforms a SRTM tile to a...

Re: [Mod] Map generation from DEM [geo-mapgen] (WIP)

I think something is wrong with my code, your map clearly don't match the image. That can't be due to the scale parameter that only sets vertical scale and son't modify shapes at all. I think this is because of the fragmentation: during converting, the image is cut into square chunks, but I've never...

[Mod] Mapgen from geographical data [geo-mapgen] (Biomes!)

Hello, This mod aims to generate Minetest worlds from real topographical data ( Digital Elevation Model ). I've been working for a while trying to generate maps of real places of the world, especially working with bobomb on his Real Terrain mod that was a great experiment, but faced huge stability p...

Enhanced stamina

Hello, Since most of online servers use the stamina system, that may be interesting to add this as a core feature, handled on client side. A common problem is that, with lag, the stamina reacts late, and for me it's one of the more noticeable consequences of lag, even moderate. And I propose some mo...

Re: What map height is really needed?

The Minetest world is NOT going to be made smaller just because you don't want to build high or dig deep. My answer to the question is that our current height limit is just fine and does not need to be reduced. Just keep it. The fact that Minetest Game starts to gets boring outside -1024 and ca...

(I don't post it to ask to be protected or anything like this, I don't need, since I don't care OC's messages. I just want other people to be aware of what a discussion with OC looks like, so you can recognize him). This night I was chatting on IRC and I got poked by crocomine (user that was not in...

Re: [Server] Capture the Flag Server (Guns!)

My aim for development is to improve the variety of matches, increase strategy, and incentivise co-op. I've been working on quality of life features since I started the server up again, and I'll now be able to add some more interesting features. Have you thought about the terrain? IMO it would be o...

Re: [Server] Capture the Flag Server (Guns!)

I'm asking to reduce size of players inventory to 8 slots and to increase size of team storage twice. Too much noob players take too much useful items and do nothing. They usually stay near base and wait for anyone to kill them. This may cause other problems: it will make difficult to take the stuf...

Re: Up!

Also some Lua mapgens are good, like watershed, that we use on MinetestForFun. I struggled with the mountains for hours and hours to build roads, carved in the rock (I can't connect this evening to take screenshots…)

Re: Crazy Bison Massif

Some weird mountains in v7 near pieces of excellent art, some montainous landscapes (not very often, sadly) strongly resemble real terrain, and some are of astounding beauty. Such 'discoveries' are certainly worth to be recorded in some way. Take a look at carpathian mapgen , that will be in the ne...

A few pics of "Crazy Bison", a remarkable terrain structure built by mg v7. What is the seed? Something I propose: making a list of several interesting mountains with seed and position. I begin with an impressive but quite easy one: seed: 9053682054377397076 mapgen: valleys positions: (0,...

Au niveau du lag ? Parce qu'effectivement le lag monte facilement à 2 secondes et par exemple c'est impossible de faire le jumping puzzle.
