Re: First Hacks on Minetest

Yes, it is as simple as that. Just replace the image you want to change, and give it the same name.
Try it!

Don't hesitate to actually try things by yourself if you want to learn Minetest modding. The eternal DIY :D

Re: [Mod] Mapgen from geographical data [geo-mapgen] (Biomes

Well... I was not expecting to have so many posts to read, let me answer your questions one by one. it would be way better to use GDAL to extract this data anyway so that you can scale and distort it using map projections rather than image tools. It is already using GDAL, btw you need to have this l...

Re: [Mod] Real Terrain [0.1.0] [realterrain]

Hi bobomb. I am very glad you are back on this project. Much time has gone, and, a bit disappointed by the abandon of your project, I started my own, that you can find here: https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=19387 . It works differently, in 2 steps, using a Python script to convert ...

Re: What's the best way I can help Minetest development?

For me it seems that you don't disagree that much. Restraining you from saying it's dumb or stupid does not mean accepting it blindly, I mean you can reject the work without offending the author, like a teacher can give low marks without insulting their pupils. This is not about approving the work o...

Re: What's the best way I can help Minetest development?

Welcome skyace65 :) What we need first, according to me (I'm not developer but I've been following the development quite closely for 4 years). ⋅ Good subgames. There are quite a lot of subgames but most are of low quality. Some time ago there was a poll about bundling subgames in the downl...

Re: ABM works unstable/incorrect

@bosapara: all that you describe in your first post is an expected behaviour, and is explained by the "chance" parameter. If chance = X and delay = Y, your ABM has 1/X chance to be executed every Y seconds, to add randomness. If you want it to be executed at every time, use chance = 1, or ...

Re: [Mod][Merged] Valleys Mapgen [valleys_mapgen]

Today I released my old changes as version 2.3, decided to break the compatibility with older version of Valleys Mapgen, and began to align the code with Minetest 5.0's API. You may find strange that I am still developing this if VMG is merged on core. It's mainly because I will use the Lua version ...

Modified the Lua Valleys Mapgen a bit today, and got interesting results with canyons https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/6905002/45520710-e515a080-b7ba-11e8-8692-b8a14a8996c2.png https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/6905002/45520711-e5ae3700-b7ba-11e8-876d-e4372824db80.png

Re: [Mod][Merged] Valleys Mapgen [valleys_mapgen]

New, experimental version of Valleys Mapgen today, using 3D noise instead of 2D for rivers, which results in a totally different shape (more irregular and "epic") for the deepest valleys. Ok, I'm using the 3d_rivers branch and the same seed as in your screenshots, and I get completely ord...

Re: [Mod] Mapgen from geographical data [geo-mapgen] (Biomes

It fails to decompress data while reading a chunk. There is 2 reasons I can see: there may be an error in heightmap.dat file structure, or the mod is trying to read the file from the wrong position.
What map were you using?

Re: Obsolete? advspawning, animals, mobf_core, animalmateria

animal_modpack/mobf is indeed extremely obsolete, becomes more and more difficult to use on recent Minetest versions. However, new players are invariably trying to use it (probably because its past popularity left traces) and experience many glitches, and by the way miss the most recent mob framewor...

PETE wrote:don't get mad i think the server should shut down for a full 24 hours to fix lag it might help

It's unlikely that waiting stupidly would fix anything more. Shutting down the server is mostly for clearing the RAM, and this doesn't take more than several seconds.

Re: [Server] Capture the Flag Server (Guns!) - Multiple maps

- These maps are online, accessible by everone. -> You can look up the coords of various valuable resources(mainly ores) such as Mese in noclip & fly mode on a local CTF setup. AFAIK the Caverns map is not accessible this way, for this reason, but it's still possible to get a local copy of the ...

For the map glitch, I still don't understand. The map loads by chunks of 16x16x16 nodes, so how could he make vertical moves of only 1-2 nodes, or even less?
