Re: [mod] Stripped tree trunks [stripped_tree]
Place torch, assuming there's one in inventory. It's a work in progress one of the students is working on, so there's no code uploaded anywhere yet. Re: API, I was just suggesting that it be handled like stairs and farming redo and most of the other popular mods do -- the person who creates the new ...

Re: is Shadow mapping desired?
I guess using SM to handle sun's illumination in a more general way could be possible. Right now it's just discarding the transparent pixels. But with the material properties and color, maybe it's possible to do what you suggest. I'll take a look on it. Anyway, my personal opinion is to create a bas...

Re: What's Minetest still missing over Minecraft?
(please read the entire thing, especially edit) I think we should focus on textures, shaders, and sounds... Also I think the ambient occlusion is too dull which makes the game feel like a paper cut-out picture instead of real objects. And it seems the textures have this blur to it, especially the me...

[Server 5.3.0] [minigames] A.E.S.
So... hey there! After 9 months, we apparently did it. The server is in beta and we hope to improve it more and more with the passing of time. Without further ado... A.E.S. https://i.imgur.com/xHGV5P0.png In short Minigames servers are the most played servers on Minecraft: they act as a hub featurin...

Re: Failures of Core Dev and the Needs of Content Creators
An engine without games - Since MTG is in maintenance only mode, it is official that Minetest ships with no real games. The struggle of banishing MTG is strong, but core devs refuse to stop this X) And you're right. this is a game engine. should be treated as one rather than a full game MTG is inev...

Re: Minecraft to force migration to a Microsoft account by spring 2021
This is the sort of action which makes microsoft a company run by douchebags. No doubt github accounts will follow the same action very soon. This is about more than people are going to realize. No word of a lie, if I ever came face to face with Gates, I would kick him so hard in the nutsack he'd ch...

Re: Failures of Core Dev and the Needs of Content Creators
Core Developers must be active within the community both on Instant Messaging/Forums or become a regular contributor. Activity is measured by showing up a few times a week. I agree with this, but there should be leeway for periods of absence. I think in a more general sense, this means not any part...

Re: Failures of Core Dev and the Needs of Content Creators
So maybe these people - me included - are the problem, but is the silence treatment the right approach? Dialogue is key, always. Maybe core devs are so fed up, stressed, can't even breathe, fine: but let's talk about it, let's understand each other. These problems can't be solved one way. Silent tr...

Re: Failures of Core Dev and the Needs of Content Creators
Majority of forks died except for Multicraft (Freeminer 2.0), want to know why? Because it's supported by core devs. Fair point Instead of helping each other, what are we doing? Again, personally speaking I'm helping too while complaining. And we're here, debating about things this guy or the other...

Re: Failures of Core Dev and the Needs of Content Creators
It's not just the core dev's fault that this is happening. it's the entire community's fault (including the core devs) for failing to efficiently collaborate and understand one another. I don't agree. They're the ones who should start communicating in the first place. I didn't say a thing for month...

Re: New project managment proposal
But who are they delegating to? Will you hire an artist or an advertising expert? I'm literally a professional artist and I'm pretty sure there are other people willing to help. I've stumbled upon Minetest, I'm not the first and I won't probably be the last. It will make the situation even worse be...

Re: New project managment proposal
It was a mistake from the beginning to talk about management, that won't work and has never worked Dividing work in groups is not about management, and groups don't need to be managed by one person, groups are useful when there's sufficient specialization, for example, engine devs vs UI designers an...

Re: Keep my base game clean!
This small mod and official framework approach could even benefit an official MTG in ways its corporate cousin Minecraft has been struggling to do for years: if somebody makes a really stand-out weapon, ore, mob, whatever...you can add it fairly seamlessly to the official game. That stimulates the ...

Re: Getting tired of it
Man, this thread is depressing. I agree though. I had (and still sort of have) a naive vision for minetest; I wanted it to be the perfect engine for block games. But I've had many troubles in my life lately: academic issues, neurodivergence, identity problems, and all of this has sort of broken the ...

Re: Getting tired of it
As a simple lurker, it looks pretty demeaning to me. The open source mantra is really "If you don't like something, I'll call you lazy so I don't have to think about it." Nah, a good open source project is a simple meritocracy, where work matters and talk kinda doesn't. Minetest seems to ...

A part of the roadmap was discussed at the meeting , no trace of the rest though. I didn't want to overload with everything there, so I want with the most actionable I also don't realise how a meeting can take place on IRC, when I use to talk with my friends on Jitsi more or less twice a week about...

Re: Getting tired of it
So, in these days I've been talking with old community members and they helped me realising how a fork is suicidal. That brought me to write a suggestions list the other day, which I then handed to ruben a couple hours before the meeting. It basically felt like the only thing I was able to do. This ...

Re: [Voxelgarden] The Ocean Experiment
I agree that area protection can lock away choice real estate near spawn away from the public, and I have been very annoyed at this on many servers. For me, the whole point of building on a server is interacting with others, and if I have to walk for ten minutes to get to my plot I feel like I'm out...

Don't feel obligated to. If your mental health is suffering, step away. I did the last few months Thanks Ruben, but I've never said that.
