A hundred lines from the end of the debug log after killing it would be useful. (~/.minetest/debug.txt or something)

EDIT #2: "/usr/lib/libz.so" not found, error, cannot compile.
How about installing zlib1g-dev or similar?

About the new release (0.2.20110922)

Yesterday Minetest-c55 0.2.20110922 was released - a bit hastily, but anyway. What I'd like to hear from you is how well it is working on Windows, Linux, or whatever you are using. In addition to everything, this is due to the fact that it now uses SQLite for bulk world data storage. Because the Win...

This happens elsewhere too; it happens due to the fact that the game doesn't update the mesh (geometry, which includes brightness values) always when the neighboring chunk of stuff is loaded. This has been chosen partly because it isn't needed with non-smooth lighting (which was the only option unti...

Fixed. Now in repository, will be in next release. Release date unknown. It is a server-side fix though, so no need to update clients for it to take effect.

This is a VERY odd bug and it cannot really be fixed as such. It might be a bug in Irrlicht too, but nobody can tell.

I have heard about this once before, in the whole year of Minetest development. So we have two cases now.

I'm not sure if this is a minetest bug, as it might as well be a bug in irrlicht or the 3d driver (whose first release is about half a year ago)
You are right in that it might be a bug in Irrlicht, or even in your graphics driver. It probably should be reported to the Irrlicht devs at least.

I've executed minetest in both gdb and valgrind . The back-trace of gdb says that the segmentation fault occurs below `map.cpp:5878:driver->drawMeshBuffer(buf);`. Valgrind tells there are frequent uses of uninitialized memory. These might be in irrlicht or in other libraries, they might also be in ...

Access violation is the Windows counterpart of segmentation fault. But that is not the original problem, it is just caused by bad error handling - the actual problem is "Unsupported texture format", but I can't really say much about that. It's probably some problem either caused by OpenGL ...

I do build it using VS2005... uh, and overally quite a random setup running on a Windows 2000 virtual machine. The good thing about that is that it builds stuff fine without swapping on disk even with 200MB of memory. Creating an another build environment is time-consuming and getting Windows XP and...

This Would appear to be similar to what Weedy's Build does too.
To my knowledge what Weedy has done is that he has just built the unmodified c55 code using self-compiled libraries and VS2010, thus you are wrong. Or am I wrong?

The crash is caused by stof() in utility.h due to the use of an uninitialized variable. This code is used on all compilers except MSVC 2010. That could not have caused anything like this. I suspect the way your code fixes the problem is only that it ignores errors at load time and causes failed-to-...

True. In minecraft griefers are not that much of a problem because you can set a server to only allow paid users. We don't have such a concept as paid users or a central authentication server. The only thing you can do is either a) Set up a server so that people on default cannot build or destroy an...

It either is some very old data from a very old map or it's just otherwise corrupted for some reason (an unclean shutdown of the game or something like that could cause it.) The game shuts down immediately when it tries to load invalid map data, to keep the data safe. You can probably get rid of thi...

Irrlicht only support fullscreen as a window creation option, so it requires a restart, so I thought to leave it out. In proper window managers you can set an application to fullscreen anyway, for me it's alt+f11 and it fills everything. (icewm) But well, I guess it could be added as a configuration...
