Recovering corrupted world after hard-crash
So I was playing in my world while my computer was doing some other work, and my computer hard crashed. When I restarted, my world would not load. 2021-05-06 00:01:15: ERROR[Main]: A serialization error occurred: 2021-05-06 00:01:15: ERROR[Main]: ServerEnvironment::loadMeta(): EnvArgsEnd not found! ...

Re: You cannot add administrators and moderators to your foes list.
LRV has been informed that what he did was improper and an abuse of his helper status. People abusing their administrative permissions (of any kind) for personal issues should be removed from the staff immediately because it shows the mindset of that person and WILL lead to another abuse of permiss...

While functionally there are similar mods out there, there is certainly something to be said for good UX. ;)

Re: You cannot add administrators and moderators to your foes list.
LRV has been informed that what he did was improper and an abuse of his helper status. Your actions against any members of the moderator staff on your own server *should* have no bearing on what goes on in the forum, as you are the one hosting it and are responsible for it, just as moderators are on...

Why is the setting "opaque water" and not "translucent / transparent water"?
Each of these seem like performance-feature tradeoff settings. Why is there one checkbox unchecked when I want all features, or one left if I need maximum performance? It's confusing.

Windows since Vista (using NTFS specifically) has supported symlinks. Here's a good How2Geek article about it if that helps: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/c ... -or-linux/

Re: Is there any future to Multithreaded Minetest?
If you could find any traction for this, I'd be impressed. Rust is still fairly obscure and requires some "unlearning" of C++, which is not a fun process.

Re: Peripheral Biomes: Share your opinion!
The ones that jump out at me are: Tall dense oak forest - A proper dense forest, with tall old growth trees and tangled undergrowth is missing from MTG and modded MTG. Trees tend to be very short, or sparsely planted. It's a 'classic' biome, but so evocative of fairytales and other cultural traditi...

Re: Trying to implement Shadow Mapping
I implemented a fixed propagation vector -1,-2,-1 (sunlight from north-east) as a proof of concept, but it should be possible to have a dynamic vector. Time of day does not change frequently, so I guess updating blocks can be implemented without burning too many resources. Nice. Thanks for sharing ...

Re: Trying to implement Shadow Mapping
Gut reaction, that looks like it would be a higher performing model (just thinking from a black box perspective) than trying to shadow map everything. However, by the looks of the implementation, it wouldn't change based on time of day? Sunlight1 and 3 look good albeit a little dark.

Minetest now allows arbitrary sub-directories in the textures directory of mods or in a texturepack directory. In addition to one level deep sub-directories in texturepack folders before. Finally some order instead of just throwing everything into one directory! textures/ ├── README.md ├── buttons ...

Re: Trying to implement Shadow Mapping
Considering Warframe (a fairly comparable game now that they added shadow mapping to their open world) uses around 2.5GB of VRAM in an open world scenario, that's not half bad, especially for a one-person implementation in a bad engine like Irrlicht.

Definitely not interested in joining as a developer, as I don't have the time or desire, but I wish you luck. Putting some much needed polish is great, and the possibility of using multiple other programming languages for a different API is both wonderful and a bit insane. ;) Don't forget to clearly...
