Re: [Mod] More Blocks [moreblocks]

More Blocks 1.1.0 has just been tagged (and should be stable for gameplay, as well as distribution packaging). If there are any problems, feel free to create an issue on GitHub :)

Re: Why are a lot of servers empty?

Games should be ratable (5 star rating as usual on most websites) and ranked by rating. Same with mods. I'm not sure if that's a good idea… :) https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/star_ratings.png These days, websites tend to prefer upvote/downvote systems, as these are harder to exploit. Based on these vo...

Re: [Mod] More Ores [moreores]

Tin was added to minetest_game in 0.4.16, and More Ores will not register it if it's detected in minetest_game.

Make sure both your Minetest engine and minetest_game are up-to-date (0.4.16 or 0.5.0-dev, but the latter cannot play on 0.4.16 servers, and most servers are on 0.4.16 right now).

Re: Minetest 0.5 is on the road

One thing I'm actually hoping for in 0.5 or later versions is smoother player movement in multiplayer. It looks kinda janky at times, and is quite annoying if you're in a PvP situation or are just trying to keep track of where a friend is. I've seen it in lots of servers, so I'm not sure if it's a ...

On non-PvP servers, player collision can be problematic since a single player would be able to block small, narrow tunnels for everyone else.

Just so you know, this is a bug caused in very old versions of Minetest when using Irrlicht 1.8 or later. Linking these Minetest versions to Irrlicht 1.7 instead should solve it.

Re: Not a Problem yet, but could be?

Since each node has its individual texture file(s), it is possible to mix resolutions just fine. Non-power-of-two resolutions may be an issue on very old hardware, but any dedicated graphics card since 2007 should provide support for them.

Re: Minecraft announcement E3 discussion

Can I play mt at 4K if I have 4K monitor? Yes, but the HUD will probably look tiny, you would have to adjust font sizes using the font_size and mono_font_size settings in minetest.conf. Note that if you do this, some menus will look broken (like the key change menu), and there is no fix yet for this.

Not only it is not open source, it looks like it targets Direct3D-based games, which is a no-go for us. We can also do better than injection, since Minetest's full source code is available.

For me the serverversion don't work on my server (16.04) but at home it works. It always says "Permission denied". What can I do? AppImages are made mostly for desktops, and I haven't really tested them on servers. The reason the server AppImage might not work out of the box in a server e...

Re: [Linux] Portable Minetest client and server as AppImages

Does the container have access to the "host" filesystem or is it independent from it? By default, no sandboxing is performed, but you can optionally use Firejail to run an AppImage sandboxed. Update I just updated the AppImages for 0.4.16 and latest Git master. These have been tested on U...

Re: [Linux] Portable Minetest client and server as AppImages

Good work. Now we need a Docker container, a file for Kubernetes, an rkt container, a Panamax app, and some more of the multiple standards+1 softwares that circumvent the package manager to install software using an own package manager. :D This is one of the reasons I like AppImage – it's actually ...

How AppImage and FLATPAK differ?
AppImage is probably easier to use for end users, at least right now – you can use it without root, it works even on old distributions and no runtime is needed (unlike Flatpak). Just make it executable and run it.

Re: Field of view (FOV)? 72 degrees?

What FOV corresponds to normal human sight? There is no "one size fits all" value, really. It depends on your display's aspect ratio (mostly if using horizontal FOV, and Minetest uses vertical FOV just like Minecraft), the distance you are from the display (which is why most console games...

Re: [32×] Faithful texture pack converted to Minetest

Can I convert texturepacks on Linux without Minecraft? No, if it's a third-party resource pack, you can do the conversion yourself (or write/find a script that does part of it for you). You do need a copy of Minecraft to convert the default resource pack though. You can do either of these just fine...

I really want to add some customizations to my minetest because I don't have much experience with C++. This script won't work on Debian. I switched from Ubuntu 16.04 to the latest Debian testing today, and tried different ways to install Minetest with git. I've done it before just fine with Ubuntu. Ubuntu 16.10 has upgraded to libpng16 instead of libpng12, you should both compile and run using that version.
